Slab heat retention in the winter.

For reference, we just had our new radiant heat system up in running earlier this month. I was told numerous times in advance by my buddies who installed it that I will be amazed at how well the slab retains the heat as it is such a large mass. Well, a few days ago it got to -8 degrees. I...

picts of your in-floor heat set ups.

We just fired ours up yesterday for our roughly 1,000 sq ft garage. I have a friend who runs an HVAC company so they handled the install other than running the PEX and a few other miscellaneous items. Right now, we are in central heating mode since we could not get the temp up/down buttons...

New Garage Slab - Foundation questions

DuPage County, Illinois. They would not let us replace the garage floor even though the house was built that way. They would let us leave the slab (grandfathered) but it was cracked and heaved so we figured now was the time to replace.

New Garage Slab - Foundation questions

Thanks guys. Water definitely should not be an issue as the asphalt driveway will be up against the slab and we have a huge slope away from the house on this side (side loader garage). Good advice on the rebar and cool idea on the apron. I was more concerned with the foundation wall being...

New Garage Slab - Foundation questions

Due to the large expense and permanent changes after this is done; I want to double check something before moving forward. As part of our fire rebuild, we ran into a dilemma. We have a four car garage but half was part of an addition. We wanted to replace one slab which was cracked and heaved...

    Massive plumbing issue

Yes, $50.00. The main issue is that booking is two weeks out so we lost a lot of time

    Massive plumbing issue

Trust me, it is mixed emotions. Happy we can move forward, but shocking that we wasted two weeks for the re-inspection when it obviously was not needed. Same inspector and he did not even look up at the ceiling. LOL at the discussed on GJ comment!

There was no fix; it was completely unchanged and he passed it.

    Massive plumbing issue

Update: Today was plumbing re-inspection. He walked up to the garage, said looks good and gave me an approved permit. No, I am not joking. Thanks for the all the input, really appreciate it.

They want R-49 below the water supply pipes. We shall see how the meeting goes next week.

    Massive plumbing issue

Ha! Sorry, I missed some! Yes, that is my understanding of closed cell as well. Floor joists are 14" wood I-Beams. With closed cell, we would need to drop the ceiling by roughly 4" to be 7" below the lowest water supply. Every unfinished basement I have been in is still conditioned by the...

No, they needed floor plans, which I drew myself so I didn't have to wait any further on 3rd parties.

    Massive plumbing issue

Thank you so much, really excellent information and appreciate the sentiment. This is basically what we are going to try to sell the inspector on; fingers crossed it works. Our insurance company has been amazing. I actually just told her what was going on and she said to let her know if we...

    Massive plumbing issue

Really appreciate the reply! Yes, this is something relatively new in DuPage (maybe State as well). No, the plumbing inspector is employed by the County directly. Are you saying it satisfies code to branch off ductwork to heat the joist cavities? If so, we could easily do that!
