Thanks for the quick reply Balaire and Ragtop. I pulled it from the car tonight. I'll take a closer look in the morning when it's daylight out. My concern is that it could be something wrong with the nut or the main screw. I can see how the paint could be the problem. That would be really...
Hi everyone, I saw this on ebay so I contacted the owner. Had the day off so I did the drive to Detroit. I asked him if it opened smoothly before I left and he said it does. 9.5 hours later i'm in his shop turning the handle and it won't open more than a few inches. :headscrat He bought it...
Hello Garage Journal community,
I'ts been a while. Three in college, been busy. I'm considering going to look at a vise but I'm not familiar with it. I doubt anyone remembers but I have four boys and I want each of them to have something nice to be able to use for years. I have one more...
Need some advice. I have a NOS Athol Vise that I would like to preserve. I won't be using in my lifetime. I want to store it so that it stays in good shape for the long run. On a previous post someone told me to pack it in grease which sounds like great advice. It spent the last 60 or so...
Thanks for the info JakeMac! It has quite a bit of surface rust on it. I was thinking of getting a soft wire brush and knocking that off first and then sealing it with the vise. Sounds like a good project to do soon.

Outlaw, you picked up on the chain. I kind of enjoyed reading some of the other answers. I'll show this to my wife unit and prove that I'm not the only one with a unique sense of humor...thanks:beer:
The chain is to help me move the vise up to the barn when I need it up there. I welded grab...
Hey thanks drivesitfar,

Hey there vise lovers,
I was having trouble with having to push my vise out of the way when I needed room and it was becoming harder for me. I got the idea to put it on wheels with some homemade screw jacks. It's very solid when the screw jacks are down. I thought some of you might like to...
Re: purchased Athol vise today
Agreed. It's hard to imagine breaking it in. Truth is, that didn't occur to me until after I paid for it. What irony! What good is it though if all you can do is sit there and look at it? I feel like a tomb raider. Once you discover the crypt where the...
