I will add to the larger tire width comments. I fought the wider is better trend for a while and I still do a little but their are exceptions. I have a Surly Pacer so as the fork on the bike says, "fatties fit fine". I've had 700x25, 700x32 and 700x32. I'm a bigger guy over 45 years of age...
On the car for your dad... My FIL has his first '64 Impala SS that he bought new, there are tons of family memories in that car and every time he drives it we hear them all. I could tell the stories myself at this point but for some reason it never gets old. Great job finding the car and...
I've done the same thing with tree guys, concrete guys, roof guys you name it. I typically have a pretty good idea of the market and the quality of work I want, I know what I'm willing to spend so if a number seems to be in my ballpark I'm good. So far I'm been either extremely lucky or...
Amazing thread, not sure how I missed it over the years. My wife had the same foot surgery as you after too many years of playing volleyball and jumping. She has had knee work, shoulder work and now her foot and it was her foot that gave her the most pain. She begged me to just cut her foot...
I have done two garages built into a hill. In both cases water management was a major focus. Without a doubt I would do poured concrete walls and before back filling I would, waterproof the walls then install gravel with drain tile around the base. If memory serves the cost of poured concrete...
I can't claim to have the same below zero weather here in PA that exists in MN but we've been into the single digits a few nights and I've yet to wear long pants while walking my dog. I can totally understand how the flip-flops were fine for your walk down the lane at home.
Yes, there was a couple on youtube that built their timber frame house with SIP's up in Idaho and they ended up using a "Cold-Roof" as well. I'm not sure they were the poster child for doing everything right but they were fairly open with their thought process and didn't want to spend money...
Speaking as the guy that carried 34 sheets of drywall up to the second floor of my house last month I'm sure you and your contractors are happy it fit through the window.
From the road view thumbnail I was thinking why is he showing the Porto-Potty but then I clicked on the picture. Amazing work, can't wait to see the big room with the high ceilings as that gets closer to the final product... And of course the garage.
I have a single "barn light" over my 16 x 8 garage door. It's perfect in it gives good security around the door (lights up the space) and due to the design of the light shade it only points down so there is limited light pollution towards the house. When I need more light I have flood lights...
The other thing I've learned is really get buy in from the various contractors... I have had a number of times where I show them prints before things are final. They sort of look at things but don't dig into the details. Then things are final they have the prints they are on the job...
