    The VISES of Garage Journal

I'm looking at the height of the slide and it appears to be larger than the 4" standard Hollands. I have two Hollands, great vises. EDIT: I take that back. Just saw a pic of a Hollands 14 and it appears to be the same slide proportions as my 15. That one looks like a good candidate for a...

    The VISES of Garage Journal

Here is a Hollands "15" I found on CL. The seller lived in an apartment and didn't know what to do with it. At $60 I knew what to do with it! :)

    The VISES of Garage Journal

Found this Parker 204 recently. Just finished the tear down, clean, and paint. Gotta love it when they still have the wrench! From a cabinet makers shop. Besides being caked with sawdust it has no huge hammer blows or grinder/file marks on the jaws.

    Show me your ANVIL

This is my 150# Fisher circa 1939 7/8" hardy The pritchel hole was either a very tight 5/8" or a sloppy loose 9/16" , I bumped it up to a proper 5/8" to make it easier to fabricate tooling for the pritchel. It came with a steel base, but was was way too tall...almost bench height. :dunno: I...

Vise and Grinder stands. I'm looking for ideas on how to use several in limited space

They are spacers...filling a gap. It would still be solid without them, but they needed to be there, otherwise when looking directly from the side it would look like the top plate wasn't supported at the edges.

Here is a stand I built for my Parker 249X The base is filled with lead. And a coffee can of scrap lead down the pipe too.

VISE REPAIR 101 all vise repairs, lubricants, sources for parts and the tricks to fix

Mike, yes, my pin looked very similar. A dark looking film of oxidation. The top of my pin is bit more chewed up, looks like a beaver tried to loosen it before I got it. :) I'm wondering about turning it down a little to clean it up, then press fitting a piece of thick round tubing over it...

VISE REPAIR 101 all vise repairs, lubricants, sources for parts and the tricks to fix

Nice job Mike! I just found a Prentiss #22 myself. It is a BEAST. (pics to follow). My rear swivel jaw pin was stuck like a duck. STUCK PIN: If anyone has to deal with a stuck pin, please feel free to contact me. My pin ordeal lasted 48 hours, but, with patience was able to get it to...

My Dad Dropped This Off Today

Nice score 73AMC! The collar(s) shouldn't be a big problem. For the front collar, the one that will move the dynamic jaw when loosening... the first question is: Is there any sign of a machined recess, where a set screw may have engaged? If so, a new collar will need to be drilled and...
