    Machining a square question

Thanks all, as usual the Journal has come to the rescue with several ideas that will work for this novice machinist. And yes, I will be watching any tire wrangler very closely. These ceramic rotors are about $2500 each.

    Machining a square question

Thanks all, sometimes the easiest solutions are right in front of me and I didn't see it. Drill and tap one end, install a small bolt with locktite, mission accomplished.

    Machining a square question

Ha, Ha. Point taken, I'll do my best not to wear my white sneakers and jean shorts. I am pretty excited to be getting this car. At my age, this will likely be my "forever" Corvette before they haul me off to the old folks home. It will be more than a cars and coffee car. I still regularly...

    Machining a square question

First off - I'm not a machinist, but I have a Bridgeport mill and a South Bend Lathe. You've helped me in the past and I enjoy learning. I have a new Corvette Z06/Z07 being built next week. It will have Ceramic Carbon brake rotors that I understand can be delicate. I want to make some stud...

Fitting short wheel base car (C6) on 2 post lift

I have a two post lift and a C5 Z06 that sets pretty low. I also regularly work on C5's and C6's. I pull the car into the lift and leave it in neutral so I can roll it back and forth if needed. I end up positioning the car more rearward than normal. Both arms go under the car and both are...

Anyone have experience with Kal-Kote plaster...should I paint or not?

Our whole house is Kal-Kote (ceilings and walls). The builder painted everything and we have since painted a few rooms to add more color.

    Small roller for file drawer

Well this is Garage Journal, so I would just grab some delrin or HDPE plastic, a bearing, and some stock. A few hours on the lathe and boom - I have recreated your $20 drawer roller for only a few hundred dollars of my time!

So I've been thinking of getting a car/truck lift in my garage....

Do a search and you'll find many threads on this exact topic. I think the bottom line is it depends on how or for what you plan to use your lift. I have a two post lift and love it. I'm 73 and have no problem getting a car on the lift. I have marks on the floor for my wife's Impala and my...

Craftsman 20" 2 HP Drill Press vs. Central Machinery 20"

If your budget was up to $700 (Central Machinery 20 inch drill press), I think you are in the price range of a good American Made Delta vintage machine. I have a 17 inch Delta and I don't think any of the imports can compete. Just my $.02 worth.

    Handling Heavy tire/Wheels

Thank you all. The Redline Tire Dolly is exactly what I was looking for. I do enough work that I think that will be well worth the cost. I knew I could count on this group to have all the answers.

    Handling Heavy tire/Wheels

Thanks guys, you are giving me some ideas. I do have a two post lift. Today I did oil and filter change, grease 9 zirks, rotate tires, and reset TPMS. I was exhausted when I got done rotating (and torqueing to 140 ft lbs) tires. I did lower truck and used a prybar. In the old days, I would...
