Awesome thread! just starting a refurbish of a late model 150.

it depends on the age of the door. if it's older 50's - 80's there is a good chance it's asbestos. The only way to really know is to have it tested. That said, even if it is, you probably didn't breath enough to cause harm. I would probably get rid of it either way and look for a different top...

When I was a framing carpenter I started with a 22oz Estwing, I then switched to a 24oz Vaughn with a fiberglass handle. I liked it better than the all steal Estwing. Both had milled faces, the Vaughn didn't seem to give me the shock that the steel hammer did. For trim I used a curved claw 16oz...

I cant answer all your questions, but I have a 624n (a little smaller than the vise in question). There is no loading/unloading with mine, could the main screw have a slight bend in it?. the nut on mine has the encrusted dowel as well.
