Harbor Freight Greyhound 13hp motor max rpm only 1800

I disconnected all the governor levers. I cut the rod going to the governor and have it directly connected to the carb and the throttle lever. It's on full power. I didn't open the engine to remove the internal governor parts. There's really no need on the greyhound. It's set up a bit...

Harbor Freight Greyhound 13hp motor max rpm only 1800

Update I replaced the carb and engine will now run without the choke on. I measured the air intake for the carb and noticed the new carb was slightly bigger so the one I had must have been the wrong carb even though the description said it would work. The rpms max at 2800 better than I've even...

Thanks for the suggestion but I already did it. No luck. I ordered a new carburetor today. My fingers are crossed

I took the air cleaner off and pointed a hair drier down the intake after it warmed up and there was absolutely no change.

Interesting, I'm sure I could fabricate something. The engine is on an Ariens ST 1032. As a test, I could remove the air filter and point a hair drier down the air intake and see if that changes anything.

No way was the 1800 3600. At 1800 it sounded like it was just running a little faster that idle. I have it now at 2600 - 2700 with the choke on and it definitely sounds a lot better and capable of moving some snow.

Harbor Freight Greyhound 13hp motor max rpm only 1800

I removed the drain bolt from the carb and the fuel came out in a steady stream so I don't think it's a problem with getting to the carb. Also, when I adjusted the throttle to a lower speed, I still couldn't turn off the choke. The same amount of fuel is flowing to the float bowl regardless...

Ok, I'll search for another carb that has high ratings and get some av fuel.

Ok. I didn't try adjusting it idle. I'm not planning on running it at idle if I'm moving snow and I don't have a cable hooked up to control the throttle. I was just running it after I changed the oil and the choke started to open from the vibration and the engine starting running rough with...

I think you might have been right about the fuel leaking into the engine. I just changed the oil. The oil smelled and looked like it might of had fuel in it.

It looks like the parts manual says it's the mixture adjustment screw but I agree with you that it's not. I've screwed it in and out and noticed no difference. Take a look at the pics. It's #25

I'm using this tach to measure rpms. Not sure how accurate it is but the problem not seems to be not being able to take off the choke. I think that could be the 900 rpms loss.

There's a small rubber piece between the block and carb. I sprayed water all around this part while the engine was running and I didn't notice any change in rpm's or engine sound. It's #1 in attached picture.

Harbor Freight Greyhound 13hp motor max rpm only 1800

The max speed for the engine is supposed to be 3600 but the max I'm getting is 2700 and that is with the choke on. If I take the choke off, the rpms drop and it starts to backfire. I removed the governor and have the carb wide open with the carb choked. It does seem to be a fuel/air issue but I...

Any idea what's behind this hidden cover on the carb? The brass screw to the left is supposed to be for the fuel/air mixture. I screwed it tight and unscrewed it many turns and nothing seemed to change. I had to have the choke closed.
