Just got an aircat 1150 to replace my broken IR 231c. Gobs more power and much, much quieter. It doesn't break the bank, either. 2 year warranty doesn't hurt!
As far as impact sockets go for home use, sunex get the job done for me.

Benchmade 551..strong, although it can't seem to hold any sort of edge. Been using it in automotive repair for over a year

Plumb 5466 1/2in breaker bar. Proto 5266 3/8in breaker bar and an unmarked USA made C clamp all for $10 at the flea market. Not the best score but the proto will see daily use

I have an IR231C that was purchased just about 2 years ago. I oil this gun regularly and grease it about once a month. Had to take off wheels on a Mini the other day and the gun fell flat on its face.
Is there any reason why this gun would be losing power?
I can't think of a common repair where a flex isn't my go-to. The fhlf80 was the first professional grade ratchet I purchased awhile ago, and its been my most used tool. If its a fastener that I can't get off with 3/8ths chances are I'm going straight to the impacts.
Found a great use for the 8" pair today..spinning drag link sleeves if you don't have the tool for them. This is provided that said sleeve will in fact spin and hasn't become one with the drag link..
