Show us Your Vintage Bench Grinders!!!!

I have an old GMF 8inch Industrial bench grinder in the shed and an old orange Speedline 6inch with a lifting handle for wire wheel work outside. It works OK but stalls out quite readily. A;so, it is missing the end shields. Anyhow, I have this 6inch Speedline that came my way recently. Small...

Homemade electrolysis. What do you use?

Thanks Outlaws. I have a similar set up. An incandescant lamp fitting before the transformer. Although I have 6 taps off the trans, the lamp fitting allows further control by use of different wattage lamps. It works well enough.

Homemade electrolysis. What do you use?

I just found this thread and have skim read. I may be repeating what has been written of previously but here goes.... My rig is a 1/2 44 gallon plastic drum with an old semi magnetic s/s dryer drum for the anode. The power supply is basically an old multi tap transformer, diodes/ali heatsink...

    The VISES of Garage Journal

Thanks for the link Dutch. And thanks to CwazyWabbit; appreciated. Here is the Record 74 Auto Vice after the Phosphoric acid wash and water rinse. Fastenings are now soaking with Mouse oil before attempting the impact driver. Maybe some heat will help. There are a couple of sheared fastenings...

The Record #75 pre clean. The swivel base lock bolts are seized as are the jaw fastenings. Usually the electro will take care of that problem and allow them to be removed without risk of breakage.

I will post what I have in a day or two. I may be able to grab some images off my old PB account (that I won't use anymore because of their extortion 3rd party policy). The 74 is waiting for a couple of extractions and a final dressing before paint. Half of the 75 is in the electro bath...

    The VISES of Garage Journal

At long last I have begun the strip and reco of my Record Auto 74 and the steel model 75. It took a while to get these two older Records and they have been worth the wait. Washed down in kero to remove the gunge then a quick hose and into the electro bath. They are coming on well. For further...

What ever you might be attempting to remove, If there are seized components, the electro is the way to go without busting a gut and or the parts My 75 is in the caustic drum for the while, been there for 5 days and now it is raining. When that stops the parts will be put through the electro...

The seller is a *****, ignorant or arrogant. Maybe all three? I bought a Record 75 recently. It was coming from the other end of the island so I called and discussed methods of packing with the seller. Banana boxes are robust and carry 18 -20KG, right? My vice arrived in its banana box, screwed...

The heat is killing over here, high 30's then last evening the clouds rolled in for a humidity sauna. Today is the same, angel rain and even undercover, it's wetter out of the shower than in. I heard that the TAB is taking odds on who has accepted the money and when they will make their play...

    The VISES of Garage Journal

There are no twists in this one Ralf. These steel units may do so, and it would take some doing I believe, but as you mention, a bit of heat and persuasion and they are back in line; not so cast ones. I did come upon the larger cast offset vice at a liquidation auction some years back, it got...

Good onya Dave. It is always interesting and illuminating to learn the history. I have seen a few down this way like that. BTW It was explained to me that they spell vice as vise so that their people dont end up at the incorrect sites when searching for *********** :D
