Above 1200 Sq/FT The Salvage Garage

Have struggled with bouncing around various fancy complex task programs etc all a waste of time for me. What has worked was a phone reminders list that gets everything that needs done dumped in it, some are massive tasks, some are tiny. Another reminders list for long term dreamer projects...

Above 1200 Sq/FT The Salvage Garage

Re the todo list software. I also use the apple reminders app, I have a list for each main location I work at. A long term todo, and a short term todo. The short term todo list has grown to be too big, hovers around 70-100 items and I get overwhelmed. My solution has been to sit and write a...

Above 1200 Sq/FT The Salvage Garage

Been a while since I posted on GJ, maybe 5 or more years, last time here I vaguely recall posting on a thread with you and a fellow with some health and hoarding issues in Michigan trying to formulate plans to clean up your properties. Glad to see a ton of progress.

How are garage doors broken into...

Lol real thieves aren't trolling garage journal for ways to break in. It's not rocket science. Spend 1 hour thinking of ways to break into your place and see what you come up with. Thieves spend all year thinking about it.

Stolen tools thread got me thinking...

We live on a 50 mph road through woods and farmland, low population. Most people travel faster. New people whine and complain trying to get the limit dropped. They painted over most of the passing lanes a few years ago, now only 1 in the first 10 miles heading to town. Now you have to pass...

Regular PEX for compressed air lines

Two gotchas that I know of: -2 stage compressor pressures PEX will creep and stretch. -you really should have some copper before the PEX if you get a bigger compressor. The pressure rating of PEX drops off rapidly with increasing temperature. RE you soldering skills, its no harder than the...

    Shelves vs storage cabinets

If your shop is packed full and busy, and looks aren't important, shelves are far better. You don't need to move things to get the darned doors open. Full height cabinets with the 2 doors are the worst because every little engine block or stick of steel or corner of a pallet will stop the door...

Above 1200 Sq/FT Cleaning Up My Shop

Sheepishly raise my hand. Its amazing the stuff I'll let go on my daily driver that I'd never accept on one of my "good" vehicles or one of my main tractors. We don't live in town so after a brake job rotors and pads that aren't that bad go on the shelf for the next time one fails and I can't...

    Something just clicked…..

Can you set your phone up to take video while you take air on and off? Can you reach in behind to cage the brake manually with a bolt so you can tell if the drum is frozen?

    Home Depot Clearance Thread 2016

Tons of the metal Gardena water hose connectors, sprinklers, nozzles, mending kits etc in clearance at local HD. Filled a basket with two packs of male/female and seal kits for 33$. Could have filled a cart but seems a bit greedy.

My only advise about hoarding and stress is from experience, don't spend time buying or looking to buy stuff when stressed. Like comfort eating it feels good to distract you from the stress but you will regret it later.

Study: Vapor Barriers Under Concrete Slabs

Such nonsense in this thread. The vast majority of areas require a vapour barrier if you are going to occupy the space above. Poly does not degrade when covered by your slab, at least not fast enough to worry about. Yes if you pour with too much water in your mix, poly is a problem and the...

Storage shed or portable single garage?

If rules prevent 3 car can you make it deeper or spend money on bonus room trusses to make storage overhead?

    Something just clicked…..

Love all the old antenna pics, my dad set up a vhf network in New Brunswick in the 90's and brought all the scrap antenna's home. Had piles of the loops and brackets everywhere. I remember a goopy tar junk that was on all the old connections and where wired entered the loops. Turned out to be...

    Building a portable garage

Most here have 2x6 floor framing, my friend had his done with 2x8 as a upgrade. Same idea paid 7000$ for a 12x20. I thought it was a bit steep. Nothing was pressure treated. Not a proper door, no loft.
