    Vintage Electrical / machine equipment

Picture #2, the push button at the top of the picture. Those are usually in demand. The rest of it, I am not sure about. I would put them on Ebay and see what happens.

An old work bench I restored....

Too cool! Awesome job on the clean up/restore. Now you need some old hammers and pliers to restore to go with it.

I See The Light At The End Of The Tunnel

Your shop is looking good. I had a question on the powder coated shelves. Did you remove any rust and paint, or did the powder coating folks do that for an extra charge? I have some Penco shelves that have a lot of surface rust, and was wondering what was the best way to handle that. Thanks

    Rewireing a old house

My experience has been that Inspectors are lenient on re-models. The panel on the stairs would not pass todays codes. You would need a 3' x 3' platform at the panels. The biggest reasons not to run wire on the bottom of the joists is head clearence and future ceiling in the basment. Drilling...

    Fire...

Breakers are supposed to trip at their rated amperage, but they dont always do it. I watched a guy at work trying to find the breaker that fed a certain wire, he grounded the hot to a metal i-beam hoping to trip the breaker, it never did, it just welded the wire to the beam. I was working on an...

    How would you wire this?

I install septic tank pumps from time to time. They come with a float switch that has a molded plug that you plug into a receptacle then the pump plugs into the float plug. On occasion I have cut off both plugs and direct wired everything, which may be the way you would want to procede. Here is...

What can cause an outlet to look like this?

sneezer41 may be onto something, I would have said sunlight, but you said metal cover, not clear. Either way, it looks like a very cheap recpt, I would replace it with one that cost more than 59¢.

    Electrical Wire along Steel Beam?

Use conduit. I am in the middle of re-wiring a house that had a fire (arson) on the first floor and attic, but the inspector pointed out wires in the basement laying on the metal grid for the drop ceiling. I had him come over for an "advisory inspection" before I quoted the job. Luckily I only...

does this make sense? (upgrades and changes)

I would have 2 or 3 different licensed electricians look it over and give you an estimate on re-wiring the house and upgrading the service. Hard to tell from here what other issues you may have, that they could point out while giving you an estimate. Just guessing from what little information I...

    200 amp service

I put a 200 amp in mine so I would never have a need to upgrade it. Like others have said, it would cost a lot more later. On the other hand, you need to figure in the cost of using bigger wire for the 200 amp panel. At 325 ft the wire cost diffrence will be a lot more than $60. Plus the conduit...

Flourscent Lighting and FM radios- Help!

One thought, check all the grounding on the lights. You could have one ground wire on paint and not making a good connection. Roadbeater could be right, you may have a ballast going bad. If all the grounds look good, try powering up one fixture at a time to single out the bad one. Let us know...
