A good start is finding what you need to work on your particular vehicle. Some require oddball tools, some just basics.
* LED headlamp
* Rechargeable work light. The flex head from Harbor Freight is awesome. Buy it on sale.
* Torque wrench - Might not use it a lot, but if you're pulling off...

I have Streamlight brand lights, but I thought I'd pick up the "tactical" light for $10. I'm impressed! Nice little light! Nice to throw in the glove box, etc.
I picked up the Kobalt 227pc Mechanic's set yesterday. Black Friday price of $99. WOW! Nice set! I've been a lifelong Craftsman guy, and have tools dating back to the 1930's. The Craftsman ratchets have been junk for years. The teeth jump badly. I've returned a couple and the new ones...
