Am I the one over reacting? Mr Heater vent pipe install

Update for those that care, and a new question! So they installed the wrong pipe (B Vent) I pointed it out, they agreed, they came back and installed the correct Cat III pipe system. So far I have not been charged for the more expensive pipe. As you see in the picture of the new pipe, should...

Am I the one over reacting? Mr Heater vent pipe install

In my case, I didn't even know the term "b-vent or cat III" at that point. I did not choose an option nor was even given one. It's just the vent they went with and chose to install.

Am I the one over reacting? Mr Heater vent pipe install

Bert, I never said I'm looking to get stainless for the price of b-vent. I don't think we're on the same radio station here. This whole conversation has turned bizarre. I didn't even know what b-vent or Cat III was 4 days ago. I’m not an HVAC installer — that’s why I hired them (in business for...

I agree, and I appreciate the nudge. I feel I did know enough about the installation to even consider checking the pipe type, I also had to convince the installer to make sure he used the 1/4" rise per foot for the pipe, otherwise I would have had it level and straight out the wall. But again, I...

Am I the one over reacting? Mr Heater vent pipe install

I'm slightly confused with this response. We hire out because we don't know. We hire out because the company has the experience and expertise. When did it fall on the homeowner to know exactly what type of vent pipe to put in the garage and why? When did it fall on the homeowner to know anything...

Am I the one over reacting? Mr Heater vent pipe install

I was quoted $$ for them to put the venting, gas lines and tank in. There was no itemized list of materials for me to check. Being that the company has been around for 100 years I ASSUMED they were gonna do it right with the correct pipe. My bad it seems, from these responses.

Am I the one over reacting? Mr Heater vent pipe install

I don't have those specifics yet, I'm assuming the fee for the Cat III stuff will be higher than what they put in. But I do not want to be charged (and will not pay for) their labor reinstalling the correct stuff.

Am I the one over reacting? Mr Heater vent pipe install

Company just called, from the stuff I provided in my email they agreed that this heater needs Cat III, and B vent shouldn't have been installed. A guy is coming next week to see what needs to be ordered and a new estimate.

haha, no, just to compile all of them. My mind needs it. I appreciate all of your opinions and feel no need to confirm them. I actually needed your opinions to confirm AI's opinion.

Thanks all for the awesome feedback. I ran all this through AI to get a summary cause there is so much, and here's what it came up with: 🔑 Summary of Opinions Some installers (like Bert_) said that in practice, everybody uses B-vent for horizontal runs, even though it’s not per the manual...

Am I the one over reacting? Mr Heater vent pipe install

Bert, you're flipping the responsibility, when in reality the manual and code drive the installation, not installer preference. Why would I need to have a special conversation to specify that I want the right parts?

Am I the one over reacting? Mr Heater vent pipe install

I initially called the company needing a propane tank and then asked if they also installed the lines and venting, they said yes. So I hired them after they came out and gave me a quote. The guy that was doing the installing had looked at the manual while he was there so I assumed a company...

Is it just the price difference, how can they be okay with gases possibly leaking back into their garage?
