    Boiler/pump settings for in floor

I ran the system for a while last night then checked the temps on the feed and return hose with my infrared thermo, it read 66F feed and 60F return. If my math is right, thats a 10 percent differential. I decided to crank the machine to 150F and ran it for 30 mins before checking again and the...

    Boiler/pump settings for in floor

I don't buy into this idea that I'm maximizing my output on the heater as the system barely runs... I swear as long as it's set to 5C I almost never walk into the garage and see it running. I could probably check the data log from my electricity company to see what times it's running in the...

    Boiler/pump settings for in floor

It's an electric boiler, I believe it's a 4 KW unit. It uses a 40amp 240 breaker to operate. It's thermostatically controlled to 5 degrees (C) at all times. I have an auxiliary 30 amp 240 electric fan heater as my secondary means to heat the building (16*37) when I go out there to work. Thing...

    Boiler/pump settings for in floor

I have heard that before and have in fact purchased another hanging heater. However, there's times where I would like to heat the building up with just the floor heat and it would be nice for it to take less than a day to move 5 degrees.

    Boiler/pump settings for in floor

What temperature are you setting your boilers at for in floor heat? I seem to remember setting mine to the lowest setting available (115F) as per the manufacture's instructions. I wonder however, if setting it higher would result is a faster heat up time in my shop? Thought's? Any reason why...

How much did you spend on your shop build?

Ottawa, Canada 16*37*10, 100A elec, plumbing drain/feed to house, $50 000/ 84/FT I had my hand in every part of the build. I did have to hire an excavation company to assist with the digging and compacting of the Monolithic slab, but I was there everyday working along side. All said I was...

    Condensation in Garage

What about running a de-humidifier? You'd have to run it on the warm side though.

Why are tandem (or inline) garages less popular?

Depending on your property, sometimes a tandem is best to allow for a more usable back yard. I built a 16*37 foot garage as it was the biggest I could build in my municipality without needing an engineer. If I would have built it side by side, I would have had to pave a lot of extra driveway...

Drain tile in front of garage

I think if you're inside the garage, you won't have any issues with freezing. The only issue I would see you having is it filling up and then you would need to pump it out. I think If I didn't have the heated floor and cutting through my concrete was an option, I would put it, like you say...

Drain tile in front of garage

Ya, the more I think about it, the more I'm like, maybe I should just get a propane torch and remove the ice once and a while. If I get once of those plastic drains and it doesn't work, I probably can't heat that with a torch as I'd damage it. Damn, winter is tough!

Drain tile in front of garage

I did think about this... I figure however, if I put the drain right at the end of the heated slab, it should catch the water and move it before it becomes ice. I think the ice starts further down and then works its way up as more and more water collects until it is close or on top of the garage...

Drain tile in front of garage

Does anyone have experience with the creation of a driveway drain pipe, something like this I’ve been thinking about creating something like this to alleviate the freeze up that occurs in front of my garage. The freeze up occurs as the snow from the vehicle in the garage melts and makes its...

What mistakes have you made in your build?

Its so funny how many people say, "I wish I had built bigger." It doesn't matter how big your building is you will want a bigger one. That said, I have a 16*39 garage and it is the following: Workshop Car repair shop House repair shop Hold everything extra from the house place (christmas...

    birdbath concrete floor

I'm having the same issue with my floor. Every time the car comes in with snow on it, it melts and puddles all over the floor. My kids seem to love splashing in the puddles but I'm getting tired of it. Not to mention the humidity issues that accompany a heated floor with puddles all over it. I...
