Yeah, it does have the garage roof above it which continues over the family room. Neither of them have a second floor above them (ie. the family room connected to the garage doesn't have a second floor above it).
Thanks again! One more question (if I may)...
The previous owner used 7/16" OSB as the flooring in the storage area but it feels unsafe to walk on. Should I replace it with something heavier (23/32" T&G OSB) or just add another layer of 7/16" OSB?
(Oh, and my previous question about cutting...
Yeah .... no, I won't be doing that :)
I'd really like to install the attic ladder perpendicular to the joists but that would require cutting FOUR joists. Is it safe to assume this is definitely not safe without an engineer? (even if I add double joists to the sides)
Thanks for the reply! Yes, it's a two car garage but quite large.
The 2x6@16oc is 10' from interior wall (load bearing?) to the garage beam.
The garage beam is doubled made of wood and measured 1-3/4" x 14" (2x14 nominal?) and spans 23' 7-3/8" across the garage.
I'm not familiar with...
I'm looking to use the space above my garage for storage. The previous owner placed some 7/16" OSB (seems flimsy) and used a traditional ladder to access it.
The roof uses rafters and the storage area is built on 2x6 (1.5" x 5.25") 16" on center.
Here some pictures:
Unfortunately the attic...
