    Vintage Mastercraft Tools

Just giving this thread a little bump when some of you might have some down-time, and be able to add to the discussion. Just wondering if anyone had anything further to add :)

    Extinct hand tool brands ranking?

I'll weigh in - even though I am no expert; The problem with rating any "name brand" tools is that over time, quality changed when manufacturing moved, or industry required changed to remain competitive. Taking brands like 'Craftsman' as an example (albeit a poor one in this thread), over time...

Craftsman V, VM, VP, VR, VT, VV- Ratchets, sell or give away?

Sorry if this is common knowledge to seasoned vets of this site; V vs VR vs VP Are these some sort of a date code? I was looking at some recent CM sockets, and noticed a two letter code which I was wondering if it was a date code.

    Show off your DOE's!

thanks I will google this to see what kind of hits I get. EDIT: Wow! I didn't expect an answer so quick! I found the following quotes from this LINK: Upon closer inspection, I am confidant that mine is 11/16" & 1-1/16" not what I posted previously; Mine shows the steel grade as mentioned...

    Show off your DOE's!

I was going to make a new thread this morning, but being a newbie, I figured I'd play nice, and see if posting in this thread might work. I came across this positively ancient looking double open end wrench last year. I removed the wonderful patina yesterday, and did an evaporust soak last...

    Socket Organizers

I found that with those metal holders it's all in the spring(?) clip; I have older Snap-On ones, older Mastercraft ones (which appear to be dead ringers for that Craftsman one), and several different no-name/HF ones too; The Mastercraft(MC)/Craftsman(CM) spring clips have a slightly bowed top...

    Socket Organizers

I used the steel ones for many years; I still use them to organize my spares (note that I did not say duplicates ;) ). I prefer these days that the socket holder shows the size - instead of having to fight the socket off the holder to then see I grabbed the wrong one… again.

What size bits do Snap On gold torx bits use and can you use them on cheaper socket bit holders?

@ DNSchmidt - any links or further info? I’m all ears. From my observation, these sockets use an oversized bit - they don’t use the same smaller 1/4”(?) base. After AJHD shared those two part numbers I reached out to the SO truck owner who would service the tire shop and dealership on either...

What size bits do Snap On gold torx bits use and can you use them on cheaper socket bit holders?

thanks!! Although I like forums, I generally avoid aps or searching websites for stuff; I have a printed SO catalog (think: phone book) that I got from one of the local franchisees a while ago, and couldn’t find these.

    Socket Organizers

Shortly before Sears closed up shop (they were gone from Canada well before the USA) I bought Craftsman brand metric and imperial organizers for 1/4”, 3/8”, and 1/2” drive. I like them, but these organizers caused me something of an OCD-fit trying to find sockets to fill all the spots. (I also...

What size bits do Snap On gold torx bits use and can you use them on cheaper socket bit holders?

Is this a discussion about these? Earlier this year I was on a quest to find a replacement bit for my SO T-50 torx socket after I had two lesser brands break on me. I couldn’t even find a SO number for a replacement bit - because if it’s better than off-brand chineseium, I’m buying…

Canadian Wrenches; Dreadnaught, Gray, ETF, Fleet, Snap-on

I'm glad I found this thread! I had said yesterday in one of my first posts something along the line of "for me to be interested in a tool, it has to have a feel and look" - My (few) old wrenches like this definitely have the look - they look old, and to me that's cool. I was given some links...

    Vintage Mastercraft Tools

I wanted to share something - but I'll get to that in a minute. Being a Canadian, I have a LOT of CT tools. I think that by a wide margin the late 1990's through early 2000's 'Mastercraft Professional Series' was the best stuff they made; I have the two attached ratchet sets, and I would love...

    Hello from Calgary Alberta (Canada)!

Hmm, thanks for the correction guys - I know I've seen signs in the past denoting "Alaskan Highway" - but come to think of it, the one most clear to me was west of Edmonton at a turnoff from the Yellowhead (Hwy 16); The closest I have been to Dawson Creek is Peace River - I was oversight(?) to a...

    Let's see your Herbrand!

This is (yet another) neat discussion on a brand I know little about; To me, the tool (after function of course) needs to have a feel and look in order for me to buy it ect; I am confident that I have several Herbrand tools - one of which was a recently acquired linesman's pliers. I also have...
