ok, NOW it's finished. Installed the stepped washer I machined that locates the wave washers and itself into the dynamic jaw. ZERO backlash just like I like it. There's a bronze bushing inside there as well to eliminate screw wobble.

Just needs some lubricants and screw retaining bits installed and it's ready to work.

    W. Bingham Co. Cardinal - the latest vise rehab project. Cleaned, did some fettling to make it fit/work a little smoother, made new jaw faces (just smooth). Now time to glass bead bare, prime, paint. I'll post again when it's ready to reenter the workforce.

Picked up as part of a lot of items. Wasn't looking for another vise just worked out that way. Not sure I'll keep it. If I do, I'm equally unsure if it's left as is (with a little wipe down and lube) or make it nicey-nice again.

Other than stop rings for the handle, the 0 is (finally) done and ready to go to a new home (keeping the 1 after a similar refurbishment). Shimmed it 'just so' and it works perfectly. Fun and rewarding project.

Would you trust an NOS torque wrench?

Relaxed beyond adjustment from non-use. :headscrat I would say you were sold a dud and the seller knew. If what you say is true/accurate, there's no reason to expect any clicker wrench to last any more than a year or two under regular use. I bought a Craftsman clicker in the late 80's. It was...

I bagged two Dakes a few weeks ago. A Model 0 and a Model 1. Both missing their plates but otherwise in perfect working order. $200 for the pair. Here's the Model 1. The other's already taken to bits and is half way to being repainted.

I believe they are welded in. The vise is 'all forged' and the pipe jaws are hardened and so, either way, they're not cast. Point taken though.

How do you change your oil?

I suspect you're spot on. ;) I have always and will always drain it from the sump plug or (as currently fitted) a Fumoto valve.
