    The VISES of Garage Journal

Came across this Chas Parker a few times, in my wandering around Craigslist. Today, I said what the heck, and contacted the guy. a few hours later, I had it all take apart, wire wheeled, degreased with WD40, and wiped down with BLO. It's missing the thicker washer that goes with the Parker...

For those wondering, she's mounted and was able to hold all 228lbs of me on the bar. I think I'll be happy with her for a long time.

VISE REPAIR 101 all vise repairs, lubricants, sources for parts and the tricks to fix

I did come across that as well. The vice is marked on the bottom of the swivel base "Made In Japan." Maybe I should take the swivel base off and see if it is marked with something else on the bottom of the actual base. I probably wont get that adventurous, as I just want to get it mounted and...

VISE REPAIR 101 all vise repairs, lubricants, sources for parts and the tricks to fix

I probably could. I found this in my home area, while I was on vacation. Contacted them, they said they would hold it for me. I wasnt really looking for a vise like this. I already a nice 3.5" Columbian on my table, but figured for $40, why not. Then it fell and broke. Oh well. I had it...

Very much appreciated. I'm sure at some point I will beat on it, and it's good to know that, as long as the repair was done properly, it'll hold up.

I'm done commenting on it. I have posted the last pictures that I will in this thread. I have moved my end of the conversation to the repair thread that LesserSon had suggested, for my, as he put it, quixotic project.

VISE REPAIR 101 all vise repairs, lubricants, sources for parts and the tricks to fix

Here are the after pictures. For a $40 vise and a $60 repair, I think I will be happy with my $100 vise. I looked around and could not touch a vise this heavy for that price. This vise will be used next to my anvil for metal work. Twisting, bending, holding for cutting with my angle grinder...

VISE REPAIR 101 all vise repairs, lubricants, sources for parts and the tricks to fix

Hi All... I started posting in another thread, probably incorrectly. It was suggested that I post in this thread, as I had some repair work done on a vise. I see a lot of the same "faces" in this thread. I purchased a Japanese Morgan (I believe) knock off. It weighs about 90lbs. I didnt...

Not a bad idea. I'll post over there and see what the feedback on the repair is.

Here's the Jaws closed. I think they are pretty square. And I have to say, I was wrenching it around pretty well last night. The bond at least will hold it's own weight. I did a mini drop test and it held find. Once I get it mounted this weekend, I'll put my weight on it and see how it...
