Buy some self seal bags from Amazon / eBay various sizes from small to big. At the same time buy a pack of Sharpies and some PVC Card Blanks. Masking tape is useless for marking up stuff it wears and gets covered in ****.
The blank cards with sharpie writing can be immersed in oil and come...

Lots of photos of plates from around the world and their years in use etc. The ones you have I think look to be Eastern European but no idea where from!
The iPhone doesn't save the orientation of the picture in the metadata as far as I have read. You rotating it 360 and saving it writes the angle into the picture metadata.
