    SK Socket Quality

Just a quick update on my minor issue regarding the new 21mm SK socket with the missing "2". (Post number 84 in this thread.) SK Eric contacted me via PM and promptly sent me a replacement socket via courier. To be honest, I was willing to live with the cosmetic issue but was pleasantly...

    SK Socket Quality

Are you talking about the retention divots? They looks uniform to me. I inserted the 3/8 extension in all of them and they look to be secure. Problem was just cosmetic so I can live it for now... although at $240Cdn, it costs about 4x that of a fairly decent brand which is made overseas.

I just checked all of them and they're definitely there. :)

    SK Socket Quality

Just received my new SK 94521 3/8 set in the metal box. Great looking sockets! The silver finish on the inside is spotty and inconsistent but I'm sure it'll rub out upon use. On the other hand, they didn't stamp the "2" in my "21 mm" socket. What's up with that?!?!

    Tools of Japan

Been living in Japan for the last 2 months and was able to resist the temptation of buying any tools... until yesterday. Made the mistake of walking into a Factory Gear shop while killing some time in Akihabara. Walked out with a nice torque wrench. I use them while repairing and building...

    Tools of Japan

JDSV, Thanks for your write up on Japan. I just got back last week after a 2 month stay. Didn't make any big purchases after my first week but I was really tempted to pick up a Toto washlet for my home. Those things are friggin awesome! Hahaha!

    Tools of Japan

JDSV, Seki City in Gifu is great but you really need a car since the stores are spread far apart. If you're looking for a kitchen knife and get a chance to visit Osaka, check out Doguyasuji which is near Nanba station. It doesn't have the selection of Kappabashi in Tokyo but it's got its share...

    Tools of Japan

Thanks for that tidbit of info regarding Nepros tools. The prices are MUCH cheaper in the US. Like half the price or less! Wow!!! My knife isn't too fancy. It's a basic VG10 damascus gyuto chef knife. Had my family name carved into the blade as well. Today, I visited a friend in Gifu who...

    Tools of Japan

Arrived in Japan on March 26. Due to an increase in sales tax from 5% to 8% starting April 1st, a lot of people were scrambling to stock up on everything from cars to soy sauce. The day after my arrival in Saitama, I went to the Kappabashi district near Ueno to purchase a fine kitchen knife...

    Tools of Japan

Thanks, that Saitama branch is pretty close to where I'll be staying. I'll definitely check it out. Could you answer two totally unrelated questions? :) I'm thinking of possibly checking out the KTC tool museum since I have a day to burn in Kyoto. Does it have a factory outlet where I can...

    Tools of Japan

I'm really looking forward to my trip. Thanks for all the information you've posted in the past regarding your trips to Japan. BTW, I noticed that Factory gear sells some Nepros and Ko-Ken sets which are exclusive to Factory gear. Like ...

    Tools of Japan

Thanks for posting those videos. I'll be flying to Japan in 5 days where I'll spend the next 6 weeks. I'll be in Saitama and I noticed that there's a Factory Gear a few stations away. Which is good for a broad selection of gear but very bad for my wallet. :willy_nil

    First post from a lurker

After almost 8 years of lurking, I figured I should post something. :willy_nil I joined this forum long ago to research some tools but since then, I sold my house and moved to a townhouse. I'm an automobile enthusiast who tracks a C6 Z06 and despite having no garage, I still do a lot of my...
