    I was thinking of going the 4" grinder route. Damage is about 3/32" deep. I guess I'll go at it a couple of passes at a time, cool in between. Thanks for the input!

    I need to grind down the anvil area on a vintage Morgan #40 vise. How careful do I need to be to keep the amount of heat I'm generating to a minimum? -Splinterd1

    I'm may be looking around for a nice swivel base vise (4" jaws). Although I may put it off until after I move in 6 months, unless I find a really good deal.

    Any of you ever ship a vise cross country before? I'm currently selling my Morgan #40, and I don't want to go overboard on the packaging, but at the same time don't want something that will break apart in transit. What do you suggest? Maybe some plywood on the outside, reinforced at the corners...

    You're probably right. I've read that the Morgan Chicago vises are pre 1947. Do you think this is accurate info?
