    Pole building quote, input appreciated

I built my barn myself, years ago. If I had to do it over, I’d make the rake overhang 2 ft, and the sides 3 ft. Getting water and snow farther away is always good. If the snow doesn’t have much wind with it, the snow barely touches the sides of the building. Rain also. The venting is also...

    Weed whacker recommendations?

I use a electric on a one acre lot. Much better than playing around with mix. As for larger lots, I have a stihl , and a echo. The echo starts easier, seems to tolerate various mixes better. The stihl requires fresh mix, otherwise starting resembles a religious ceremony, complete with sacrifice.

Shop build: what would you do differently

Common in this area to put a floor drain in, stuff some rags in it, concrete over it, then when the inspector is gone, break out the area over the drain, do some concrete repair, then you have your drain.

what is proper truss/post support? pole barn

In my barn, the trusses are set on a double 2x12, as in the 2nd pic. It’s called a truss carrier. But my posts do not extend over the top of the truss carrier. The truss carrier is thru bolted to the post, also. Not just nailed.

Novice looking to learn building code

I question that. I’m in Michigan, and have a commercial building. I can’t do electrical, plumbing, or hvac. You need permits for anything that people are going to occupy. Btw, rehabbing a 1880 building into a restaurant, is stupid expensive, as a result. Permits for everything, and plans...

    Advice from plumbers needed...

It will be a job, you have to remove the trim piece, dig out that foam, and if it soldered on, heat it up to remove the valve, then cleaned up and the new valve soldered on. For as often as those valves are used, I’d let it be. I know I have lots of things that offer a better return on my time.

Small in wall safe, who has one? Recommendations?

I’d put the money into some good internet cams. And a sign that tells folks that you are on camera. A alarm system would be good also. One thing, putting a safe into the house framing might result in a lot damage when they remove it. Guns, I’d just get a good gun safe. Then frame a closet...

Standing Seam Installer around Annapolis MD

Metal roofs require a bit more in labor, basically more skill. You screw up a shingle, no big deal. Cut a panel wrong, it might be $100, plus time to get a replacement. Metal roofs here go for about 2 to 3x a shingle roof. I screwed up my numbers, your price is about right.

Standing Seam Installer around Annapolis MD

You really must have got a great deal on matieral. I just priced the panels out at Menards website, that roof, just the panels would be 13500. Not including any trim, screws, underlayment, Advil. I’ve done a couple of metal roofs, I’d not want to handle 33 ft panels by myself. That snap lock...

Pop up drain emitter to prevent septic backup into house?

I have a septic, it is a gravity system, as most are. No check valves, no pumps. My septic pipe is 4 inch pvc. Never had a blockage between the house and the tank. I have had blockage from the tank to the field. I replaced the septic cap with a 2 inch foam piece. There is another cover a...
