Well at first it didn't make sense to me either but the heater is designed to put the compensation through the burner. Very very minimal rain gets in. Another way to look @ it is if you vertical vent what direction does the condensation/water fall?

45k is 3", Slope inward not out! Mine failed inspection because of this and the heater is now mounted 6" lower to compensate :(

I have one, although it is CSA approved no gas company will certify it on NG. I found a loophole though, propane conversion and a 20lb tank :)

Dear god let me know if it works. Every night I have to listen to my wife complain about this. When it dips to -40 and runs 4-5 times a night then the complaining really starts. I think it is louder in the bedroom than it is in the garage. Amazing product otherwise.

My power vent motor had a rattle. I changed it now its good. Could it be that?
