    Show us your arbor press!

Added a bolt on table to increase the daylight of the press today. 6 x 6 x 5/8 angle Iron 18" long. I followed the same system as on the snail plate with the 4-1/2" sleeves and flanged tee bushings, centred under the press ram. The angle iron is bolted to the stand with six 3/8NC16 SHCS's...

    Workbench Top Material???

1/4" Q&T Quench & Tempered Hardboard was my go to for bench tops for years. It was tough, water resistant and overall a good wearing surface. Over time though the "water resistance" fads and it breaks down. Last time I re-did the bench top, I got some "reject" Corian. It was ordered in...

    Locating Compressor leak down?

I did a soap test on a compressor the other day and still could not find the leak. I ended up having to increase the soap content in the water and tip the compressor over a bit and finally found where it was leaking out of the bottom of pipe plug that I had not touched. Very slow leak, but...

Brown & Sharpe #13 Serial Numbers

Trying to put together a serial number listing for the Brown & Sharpe #13 T&C Grinders with date of manufacture. Anybody that has one of these that is willing to supply their serial number so it can be added to the list, please do so. Serial Number, Date of Manufacture and voltage is what I am...

    Show us your arbor press!

I have three different sizes of bearing knives that I use with that press on a regular basis. Even with the snail plate, I'm sure they will still get used. There are times though that when pressing, more support is required than what can be supplied by the bearing knives. This plate will give...

    Show us your arbor press!

The sleeves and the "Tee" "Flange" bushings are from one of the tool suppliers as part of their "specialty" tools which service centres can purchase. I just incorporated it into the design. Now to see if I like this better than the bearing knives, I have been using for the last 30 years.

    Show us your arbor press!

Large hole is designed so that a sleeve can be set into the counter bore and Tee Bushings set onto the sleeve for pushing through. Alternately the Tee bushings can be set directly into the counterbore to give a series of hole sizes without having to get another plate. Decided to go 1/2"...

    Show us your arbor press!

Managed to get some progress done on the snail plate today. First step, after cleaning the clutter off the mill table was to bolt down the rotary table, then centre under the spindle. it is only an 8" so I used a brake disc as a sub table. Centred the brake disc on the rotary table and...

Darn mice in my Vidmar cabinets

Yes, this is the first time we've seen an owl in our yard. It was sitting on the fence post of the deck when we woke up, stayed there for quite awhile just sitting still, could walk right by it. It wasn't till it fell off the post and rolled down the stairs that we figured something was wrong...

Darn mice in my Vidmar cabinets

I went into one of my drawer units yesterday under the drill sharpening system and found a bunch of bird seed, LOL. That and squirrel tracks leading to the cabinet. Also found a walnut in the upper head raising slideway of the B&S #13. We had rats move in a few years ago, so we got two cats...

    Small bearing puller needed

"What manual / catalog are those tools out of? If my lathe was powered up I’d make one and add two bolts to pill it together however it’s not getting wired up till I get into my new shop with 3PH and that buildings not going to ready till January at least." Grant As a factory Service Centre...

    Small bearing puller needed

Look at 61-40-1110 in the picture. It is like a bearing knife, but the knives are lower than the plate. Not a cheap piece but it cups under recessed 608 bearings and allows them to be pressed off. Note pressed with a press, not pulled. The lip is on the fragile side, I have already snapped...

Not new news; just recent evidence corded power tools are now officially worthless junk

Good choice, this is one of Milwaukee's best reciprocating saws!

    Show us your arbor press!

Reading through and looking at all the shop presses, figured I'd share my press. I picked this press up while I was in Millwright school, just a few centuries ago. No fancy paint jobs, it is as it came. It is a Famco 25R, I hauled it home in the trunk of a valiant car (did not come with the...
