    Vise restoration help.

I have removed screws like that with no slot left at all. I position a steel nut (not cad plated) over the screw head and weld through the center of the nut, welding it onto the screw head. Then (after the screws cool) with a box wrench on the nut and a small hammer, tap-tap-tap the wrench...

HF Toolboxes Workbench - Phase 3

When I was still working (retired in 2013 at age 58), I was in IT for 25 years. Prior to that I was in mechanical trades from motorcycle tech to equipment maintenance for much of my early years. Any "skillset" I may have is nothing more than trying things and learning from my mistakes for a...

HF Toolboxes Workbench - Phase 3

+1 for Jack's 12 Gauge Garage! Way back when I first started lurking around Garage Journal, Jack's awesome use of space and highly efficient designs for his infrastructure really wowed me. I studied his work, and enjoyed his artistic execution on something as simple as a table frame. And what...

Love those yellow boxes! Too hard for me to keep clean, but they look great in your space!

Crack in my front entrance wall, freak out or something normal?

Looks like the brick sits on a "foundation" of flatwork that has sunk over time. Some of it stays stuck to the wall it was attached to, and some sinks with the base it sits on. Highly unlikely that the wall is getting taller and pulling the brick facade up with it.

HF Toolboxes Workbench - Phase 3

I thought you all might get a laugh out of this. What my workbench looks like after 12 years and a zillion projects of all type and scope, and accumulation of all things left behind . . . .

Quality Garden hose wyes, shut offs, etc

These are good quality, full-size hose washers. I keep a ziplock bag of them in my RV for all the hose connections.

I have been informed that the old link for the shared bench drawings may no longer be working for some folks. Here is the link that I know currently works. https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0B6LvQkEAovswSmpKQ1c0Z3pjRjA?resourcekey=0-uoDTFW0I9HxzRoIRTBbrbw&usp=sharing I have now also...

Are my building specs okay for a 30x50?

I have kicked myself for years for not building higher with a taller door. My 11'-4" finished ceiling (was supposed to be 12') has been an issue several times, and the 10' high door is a PIA. Can't even pull a small RV in there to work on it, and my 5th wheel (which I never even dreamed of...

HF Toolboxes Workbench - Phase 3

Due to the frame design I used to hold the boxes, I have six leveling feet for two boxes, since they were rated at something like 3000# per leveling foot.

    Is garage lust dead?

My workshop is MY WORKSHOP, and it is of no concern to me or my spouse whether we (or she) ever recover any of the cost of building it, operating it, or maintaining it, or what the next owner might store inside it. They can raise pigs in there, grow pot in there, keep their umpteen dozen...

    Garage height...12 or 14?

I built at 12' with 10' door and have been kicking myself for ten years now for not going 14' with 12' high door.
