Move over Harbor Freight Vevor opens first physical store

One nice thing about Harbor Freight is that, at this point in time, they're actually putting thought into their product lines. Not always for the win, but they do try. Sometimes it's the little things even, like the Icon sets in plastic cases that have the contents in raised letters on the side...

    TTC: Allen Hex Key Shootout

One nice thing about full hex shafts is that as they wear, you can cut off the worn parts and keep going. So as good as the Wera are, I'd pass for the Bondhus. And since I joined Garage Journal I've heard nothing but good about PB Swiss, but for $80, I'm going to pass for the Bondhus. I did own...

Help me choose a hand drill reamer

I appreciate the replies. In my one-time experience, I didn't have any issues with the reamer grabbing. I was driving it with a gear reduced D-handle drill and had my kid hitting it with coolant the whole time. But, it was pretty thick material and pretty hard. Maybe softer metal could have been...

Help me choose a hand drill reamer

Last year I had to enlarge some 7/16 holes to 1/2" in over thirty, heavy spring steel, chisel plow shanks. Ended up buying a single bridge/car reamer and it worked beautifully! Now I want a set to have on hand so the next hole enbiggening project I don't have to wait on UPS or try my luck with a...

    Genius Tools

I have a Genius 3/8 set, 1/2 metric and sae, roto head ratchets, and their spark plug sockets. I find them to be quite nice except, as another member noted, their round head ratchets a pretty meh. The 1/4" roto ratchet did fail on me (started skipping teeth). I emailed for warranty and explained...

    Epstein's Day 2022?

Why do I suddenly want a WWII tank periscope so bad? What possible use could I find for it? https://www.harryepstein.com/wwii-tank-periscope-boxed-most-dated-1952.html

I question if it is really necessary to return clicker torque wrenches to there lowest value

From my research back in the day on the Great Gun Mag Debate, the best explanation was that ALL springs take an initial set, and that set is factored in by the manufacturer. (Replace any mag spring and there's a marked difference between their lengths). But once a spring has set to it's working...

(Part 2) Looking for a o-ring lube that is safe to come in contact with ATF

Right. Like I said, I generally use silglyde for those. Except engine liners I use murpheys oil soap.

(Part 2) Looking for a o-ring lube that is safe to come in contact with ATF

I think you're right that silicone might be the best. Even if it doesn't mix with oil I don't suppose that necessarily means it's harmful. And, as another fella said, the amount that ends up in the oil is just too small to be of consequence.

(Part 2) Looking for a o-ring lube that is safe to come in contact with ATF

The good thing about Vaseline is that it is 100% pure petrolium and will mix with any other petroleum fluid. It's my go-to for oil o-rings. I haven't seen it swell o-rings like another fella said, but if it does then why wouldn't the oil the o-ring is sealing also swell it? The safest thing for...

    Craftsman Metric tappet wrench set?

I have the Capri set in metric. Very nice, especially for the price.

    Stick welding

The nice thing about stick welding is I can switch from rust blasting 6011 to clean and pretty 7018 to hard facing to cast steel in seconds. Not as quick with mig. I was even told by my weld supplier that you're supposed to also swap out the sheathing when switching to certain wires because...

Bought Sunex for the First Time

I also have the half moon sets. They're okay, but probably good enough for how rarely they'll get used. Had their angle / four way set.. Was not impressed considering I use those much more. Quickly replaced with Tekton when. Those became available. Lastly I have their e-torx sockets. Very...

Anyone reuse a old socket box for a new socket toolkit?

I've taken a heat gun to a CaseIH (Williams make) 1/4" socket set to reform the ratchet slot to fit a roto ratchet. Also drilled holes in a Chapman bit case so I could fit a full set of torx in there. The worst offender for excessive case "dead space" is Proto. As much as I love their tools...
