Scored a Champion Air Compressor, Need Opinions on How to Fix

if it stopped building pressure all together likely the valves, judging from the look of them that either ran outdoors or in a REALLY grimy shop and they didn't maintain the filters :( if it were SLOW to build compression might be the rings, think of it like an engine but got a motor spinning...

I need a DIY Air Compressor

do you mean DIY as in 'im gonna build me an air compressor from scratch' or DIY as in, 'I do work around the house and need an OK unit to use a few times a month'? if the latter, the 30gal oilless harbor freight one is a good choice, they DO wear out but will last a long time as long as you...

Quincy 230 rebuild - penny wise dollar foolish

Ha! found it! Didn't look through that last manual close enough I guess, was hoping for a full parts manual like the ones shown for the other ROC's on that page. Not the biggest deal, I took a lot of pictures and its not like these are THAT hard to figure out.... was more curious about what...

Quincy 230 rebuild - penny wise dollar foolish

Nice! mine is a splash lube unit but if you have the manuals i'd love a copy :D Edit: forgot to mention - when I spoke to the local Quincy they mentioned 3HP is the ideal motor for a 230. Mine came with a new 5HP but I'll need to use a VFD to get it to work anyhow, just gonna clock it to the...

I received an Air Compressor for free

def keep the tank! Oillless compressors have a lifetime before they wear out, but no reason you couldn't find a new pump and build out a really nice unit. 30lbs is enough for any 'around the house' tasks, a proper pump and that'd be the last compressor you ever needed to buy.

Quincy 230 rebuild - penny wise dollar foolish

Not much progress tank side but I found a rebuild kit reasonably priced on flea-bay. Got everything apart, cleaned, degreased and started painting! There were 4 different shades of blue and orange on this under the grease so no idea what the *right* color is... Brought a chunk with a color I...

Quincy 230 rebuild - penny wise dollar foolish

This was my first idea, but for whatever reason locally its hard to find a tank because people cut them up for BBQ grills. The reason I got the 230 + 5HP motor for peanuts was a result of the guy selling the original tank to someone for a grill. I'm not married to the idea of the propane tanks...

Quincy 230 rebuild - penny wise dollar foolish

was thinking of this, but where I was hoping to put the compressor a horizontal tank would fit better... Preference is to not modify them so might just have to find a different location :( Not sure I follow with the Chlorine problem - Bleach breaks down rapidly, was figuring the phosphoric...

    wiring lights in new garage

the choice between 14-2 and 14-3 is dependent on where things are physically located - the extra wire in "3" cable allows you to control two circuits with one piece of cable (common neutral) so if you have all your switches in the same location, yes it'd be less wire to use "3" than "2". If...

Quincy 230 rebuild - penny wise dollar foolish

I've been on the hunt for a decent compressor for some time now, I do general metalwork and home / auto repair so wanted something to run a few air tools, a nailer, maybe a small sandblaster. Installing my sprinklers last year and not having a way to blow out the lines come winter put some...

Help me ID a Quincy compressor pump!

Thank you to everyone who replied! Indeed that is the ROC and I've spent the last week learning a lot about compressors.... Ended up finding a Quincy 230 for cheap and not using this pump for now. Getting my pics together of the rebuild for a new thread :D

Help me ID a Quincy compressor pump!

I'm working on restoring a vintage Quincy compressor found at a swap meet - I'm not sure how the model numbers work but the stamp on the back reads X8-13 and below it is a stamped "R". I see others with "X8" compressors around but not sure what the 13 means. I'd like to find out the CFM and...
