    Got it, I saw the part on eBay and figured it out, push down and turn counter-clockwise, then pull off, mine was stuck so had to carefully pry with a box cutter blade to get it started. Onward.

    Thanks, that’s just what I had in mind - keep the character by not grinding everything off, get the internals up to spec, and have a fun paint job. The action on it is so smooth!

    The vise is finished. Disassembled, cleaned, primed, painted, satin cleared, greased, and bare metal dressed with BLO. Smooth as butter after 80 years. American iron. B-17 livery as an homage to it’s cast period. Lights make it look more glossy than it is. I’ll be putting it back in use...

    Thanks for this info-I’m halfway through the 30+ page Wilton date thread so getting up to speed on the casting differences. I knew before buying it that it was an early model but that’s about all I knew. That the jaws are original is icing on the cake for me. The smell of the dried grease inside...

    Thanks, I'm excited to fix it up. I like the raw BLO look but am leaning towards painting it old school blueish/grey. I may tart it up a little by painting the raised lettering gloss white. Suggestions welcomed. Will leave the handle, jaws, and anvil pad rubbed BLO.
