What's the one garage upgrade you wish you'd done sooner?

Going along with your questions, then expanding: 1. Lighting was planned from the start. What was to be installed was not determined until the hospital where I was working was upgrading lights. I got 16 double-tube fluorescent troffers that I recessed into the ceiling. Recently re-wired for...

To block or not to block. That is my question

Please remember: "code" is only the MINIMUM that is required. You are always welcome to do more (better) than that. .

    What is an end wrench

Small detour here. Many years ago, in Reader's Digest's Humor in Uniform column: A motor pool Sergeant had spent the morning giving a lecture to a bunch of new recruits on 'selecting and using the proper tool'. Later that afternoon, he was walking through the garage and heard one...

    Small shop bathroom layout

I went without the shower. Room is just a touch under 5x5. Main reason for no shower is that I had heard that if there is a shower, the inspector will look more critically at other stuff, thinking it might be a habitable area, possibly for renting out. Secondary reason (might actually be the...

Tool name? Looks like a "George" to me. :dunno: .

Connecting air tools at full pressure

I have ball valves above and below the air ports. Yes, plugging in the device with no pressure at the coupler is easier, but it's not all that bad, unless, as others have suggested, you have arthrities or some other issue that simply makes it too hard. My ball valves were not installed for...

    Ceiling Fan Shop?

How high is the ceiling and how close is the fan to it? I don't have any fans in the shop, but have several in the house. House ceiling is about 7' 9", so we have "ceiling hugger" fans. I have found that at any speed faster than LOW, the fans simply refuse to blow DOWN. Mainly due to supply...

"continuous ridge vent" ... what does it actually mean?

I don't know what, if any, calculations were used on my building, but the vent stops about 3' back from the edge. I didn't know that might be something to discuss with the builder, so never brought it up. I just assumed it would go closer to the edge. :dunno: .

What pliers does everyone use for connecting side plate connecting links?

As @Codyboy says, rearward. To put it in other words, if the chain were to brush up against something, the clip should not be able to catch and be flipped off. With the open end away from direction of CHAIN travel, it won't happen. .

    Unknown poker

Just a guess, but it could be a type of wire wrap tool. .

What Tool Is The Bane of your existence? I'll go 1st

Those of us who ARE "in the field" firmly believe that every engineer should be sentenced to working on his completed project for at least a year before he goes back to re-design it.  .

Best way to stub into stick build

I painted my gray conduit along the house with a "Redwood" paint. Matches quite well. Along the back vinyl siding, I painted the conduit with a "Sandstone". Also matches quite well. .

Does Your Body Hurt Less with a Lift?

Right after saying "NO", you say "I have heard that U-Haul has a truck or two that you can rent for that job." :dunno: .

Bathroom Heated Towel Bars - Anyone with First Hand Experience?

Thanks for the explanation. I guess I'll have to look them up for some more details, even though I don't plan on making any more changes at home. .

Bathroom Heated Towel Bars - Anyone with First Hand Experience?

I think I have heard of them, but the concept eludes me. My towels contact the bar for a total of maybe an inch and a half. Add a little bit of radiant heating, maybe about four inches of towel gets warm. What good is a four-inch band of warm towel? Maybe it works better than I...
