My grandad was just 16 when he signed up at Canvey Island. We don't know why he was in Essex, but it's possible he was a telegram boy for the GPO. He was shot within about 3 weeks of arriving in Gallipoli, and as far as I can tell he lost much of the use of his left arm. He could use the hand...
