Very Vintage Craftsman 119.2301 worm drive saw?

I sold this on ebay shortly after my original post. I 'think' I got $150 for it... I gave the 'owner' $75. I am a little embarrassed to say that while I thought about keeping it for myself, at the time I did not even have $75 at my disposal (which is why I was making a little extra $ selling...

VISE REPAIR 101 all vise repairs, lubricants, sources for parts and the tricks to fix

Post Leg vise mounting... Hey guys, I finally made a free standing mount for the 6" post vise I got off Facebook marketplace almost a year ago. The base is 1/2" steel, with a very heavy truck hub welded on to add some weight. The vise weighs about 90 lbs, and the base it just as heavy...

VISE REPAIR 101 all vise repairs, lubricants, sources for parts and the tricks to fix

Holy ****! Thanks for the update! I never imagined it would be that long... no wonder they are removed/lost. I might just shorten this one so it sits just behind the face of the jaw...

VISE REPAIR 101 all vise repairs, lubricants, sources for parts and the tricks to fix

Thanks for getting back to me. I have the 2 jaws and the spacer in the vise body (main casting/static jaw). They are around 2.5 x 3. The one in the dynamic jaw looks like it's going to be 2.5 x maybe 1.5 or 2... I guess I'll try to make up a cardboard model?

VISE REPAIR 101 all vise repairs, lubricants, sources for parts and the tricks to fix

Parker 87 question... Does anyone have a Parker 87 WITH the original (or good copy) pipe jaw in the dynamic jaw? I got a good deal on an 87 and it's missing that one jaw. I made a new one from one of the 2 in the main body of the vise (using it as a template), however... they are not...

New aluminum AND electric Maid of the Mist boats

I did not think to ask that 'good' question... and he did not mention diesel once, and said 'electric' many times, so who knows?

New aluminum AND electric Maid of the Mist boats

I've been meaning to post this for a while, I'm not sure where it should go, and I thought some of you would be interested... My wife and I were walking one of the trails near Niagara Falls a month or two ago and we got to the site of the old (collapsed) electric plant. There I saw a ton of...

VISE REPAIR 101 all vise repairs, lubricants, sources for parts and the tricks to fix

Depending on the bend I use another vise cold, or heat it red with the torch and then use the vise. This usually works very well for me. I have also used v blocks and a large clamp...

Let's Hear it for the Old Gray/Red Sears Craftsman Tool Chests and Cabinets (60s/70s)

Craftsman tool box Free for restoration... I thought I might restore this, and... I haven't. So... I've learned so much and received so much good advice from GJ that I thought I'd just offer this free to someone here who might live close enough to me. I live in Elkins Park PA 19027

VISE REPAIR 101 all vise repairs, lubricants, sources for parts and the tricks to fix

Thank you for the reply and advice! He really wanted it welded and not brazed, so that's what I did. I did end up using a sleeve for the handle. Without a mill I used a Foredom took and a 1/4" carbide burr to embiggen the hole until I could fit a sleeve with the right ID for the handle. Then...

VISE REPAIR 101 all vise repairs, lubricants, sources for parts and the tricks to fix

Hey guys, I'm doing some work for a local guy. He was a farrier for all of his life, and he has collected a ton of old vises and anvils over the years. This time he gave me this Reed 206R. He wants me to weld the worst of the gouges and grinder marks. It's really just a bit of practice for...

    Brass couch base repair?

Thank you all for your input! I was able to get the broken part soldered back on using the Stay brite 8, and clean up was easy. I use harris stay siv 56 on the pommel of my Mjolnir and clean up is pretty difficult There is probably a best practice that I don't know. I'm going to try the stay...

    Brass couch base repair?

Thank you so much! I ordered up some Stay brite 8 and the flux. Should I try to anneal the brass before attempting to bend it back?

    Brass couch base repair?

Hey guys, I accepted a job to repair of couple of parts of a vintage couch base for someone who restores and resells such things. In the past I made a replacement base for a Florence Knoll Credenza for him, and he was very happy with it. I'd like to do a good job on this so he'll continue to...
