I have 2 in my garage and they work great. Since I live in Canada I bought the ones that are black and ribbed to help control water from melting snow. Have had them for just over 2 years and they still look like new.

Can 4 bulb 4' T8 troffer style fluorescent fixtures (the ones that are used in drop ceilings) be used as surface mounted? I was thinking of installing them and then dressing them up with wood around the edges to give them a more finished look. I can get these for a good deal but am not sure...

Yes the safety ladders are suppose to hang. You must have at least 1/4" of thread showing above nut. I called Bend-Pak and that is what they told me.

Hi, I'm putting together the same hoist. I find that the instructions that came with the hoist to be not so good. I have a question about the safety ladders installation. Are they suppose to be hanging from the top nut? Mariano
