Subpanel off of Meter/Main for attached garage

The panel diagram did not show how the taps were wired. It showed neutral lugs and service connections but not feeders.

Subpanel off of Meter/Main for attached garage

Looks good. You have a Swiss cheese style neutral/ground bar that should accept up to 2/0 gauge AL wire.

Subpanel off of Meter/Main for attached garage

You need to remove the cover and see the wiring there. The 4 spaces may be used for a lug kit or similar.

Panel question 20 spaces 20 circuits with 240V

Siemens type QTA/QTAN identifies 15 and 20 amp tandem arc fault breakers that do not have a rejection tab. Their docs are a bit confusing. From https://assets.new.siemens.com/siemens/assets/api/uuid:0aaa1992-f5ed-4bd3-87f4-4f12871dd972/sieca-en-ss-twinafci.pdf The UL substitution letter...

E Heat circuit breaker getting hot?

You might have to rethink this as most US codes allow a maximum of 60 amps per breaker for heat loads. I think Canada allows it though. Find the air handler and heat kit manual to see how it shows things should be connected.

E Heat circuit breaker getting hot?

GE breakers are history. ABB bought them out a few years ago and now only sells with their name on them. 100% compatible and listed for legacy GE panels.

You really need to get Eaton and other manufacturers to update their definition.

    Adding Subpanel

It does look better but why does the picture look like you have a light in the working space in front of the panel?

Whole House Surge Suppression - GE THQLSURGE vs Eaton CHSPT2ULTRA

Maybe where you are but most of us have a single electrical panel that houses the main service disconnect and branch circuits. The new rule requiring an outside disconnect is changing that for new installs but most predate that requirement.

Want to add another 50a circuit to this full panel for EV charger, but i am not finding a breaker combo that will get the job done.

You have 8 circuits for "lights." With LEDs you should be able to combine them down to 2 circuits without much issue.

    Whole house surge protector

That is the normal method. Square D panels let you attach to the lugs connecting the main breaker to the bus bars.

Type 1 SPD wired directly to main lugs

The instructions with Schneider's HEPD SPDs do mention using connectors if attaching to a bus: "Install the crimp lugs onto the black wires by using a UL Listed ring connector suitable for 14 AWG copper solid wire. " Schneider's panels are designed and tested for use with their SPDs. OP has a...

Can I put a tandem 20 amp arc fault breaker in this panel?

HOMC30UC is the part number of the cover. Square D stupidly doesn't show the real part number unless you take the cover off and then find it on a sticker next to the main breaker. Siemens is the only one currently shipping tandem arc fault breakers but they are not listed for Homeline panels.

    Permit Inspection

Yeah, at the time I did shut up. To get the sticker and power turned on we did it his way. This wasn't a "small area" inspector but someone from an electrical inspection company.
