We burn firewood to help heat the house in the winter with a wood burning insert in the fireplace. When we had the concrete poured in the back of the garage we had them leave us a nice sized slab in the back to build a woodshed.

Mikej1: Im not sure what the technical builder's term for the type of foundation we have, but I do know that since we are on a lake and the water table is pretty high that we had to go above and beyond to get approval, with extra compacted stone, a beefed up slab and vapor barrier of geotech...

Put a gas fire place in the corner up here. Wasn't sure if it was a good idea at first, but now that wisconsin is now like the planet Hoth, I'm glad we did

Upper level has just recently been finished. A lot of it will be used for storage, and a lot of it will be used for ??? At this point, we have a lot of ideas but haven't committed to anything yet.

At this point in the build we were finally able to start using the garage for vehicles, as well as storage on the ground floor while the upper level was being finished. Great timing too, because it was starting to get cold outside and scraping ice off the windshield every morning is not fun...
