posts coated with tar foundation coating

I have looked into it. I like the idea of it not rotting. It just don't make sense to me that it could be as strong as a continuous column that is 42 inches in the ground. Through their testing it might be fine. I bet it would be just fine unless you had some extreme situation. Still a lot of...

posts coated with tar foundation coating

There are basically 2 very different ideas when building a pole barn when it comes to columns. 1) drop a complete pole in the ground (acts as it's own foundation and structure) Cheaper $65 each for a 3-ply column. Disadvantage- may rot if not properly treated. Life span 5-25 years maybe. 2) use...

I like the idea but they are not cheap. I have read a lot of bad things about side wind loads using those brackets. A pole in the ground will resist side wind loads. A pole sitting on top of concrete will maybe not rot but may get damaged in high winds.

I know this is an old thread but wondered if you made any progress. I plan to do the exact same thing. I have access to probably 2000 gallons a year.

heating my shop with used motor oil

Sewerzuk any progress on the WMO boiler? I want to do this in a bad way. I can't take these high $ propane winters in Ohio anymore. I am a generator technician. I accumulate about 1500-2500 gallons each year and access to more if I want. I am still at the thinking/planing stages right now. If...

heating my shop with used motor oil

Sewerzuk, awesome read. I read it all twice. I have no immediate plans to do this bot would like to soon. I have access to a bunch of waste oil. I'm a generator tech. 1) so you don't have your shop furnace anymore? 2) did you say you were working on a boiler for shop/house? Any pics? How far...

    The Garage Pit

Does anybody really worry about permits and zoning? Dude my neighbors are amish and on my land I build what I want. I'm smart enough to know if it isn't safe I won't build it. I don't need to pay the government to ask permission if I can build something or how to build something on my land. I...

    Building my own gas grill...

I would like to build a 4 burner heavy stainless grill. So many cheap quality grills out there. I'm done buying junk. Cast iron burners or black pipe. Quality and adjustable regulator. Nice control valves. I think I could build for less than $150. I've even saw on built out of an old hot water...

First thing is you can never be too cautious! I think some of you don't trust your fellow man or have reason not to. I will continue to have people come to the house oand me go to theirs.

    Selling on CL

I am a trusting person but always on guard when dealing with someone I don't know. Always carry a 38 special when dealing with the unknown. I have bought maybe 10 cars, trucks, jeeps on CL and computers, car parts, tractor parts, ect. I've also sold a lot of stuff on CL. Never had a single...

Is black top cheaper than concrete?

Black top is usually a little cheaper. Around me there are several mexican crews that do it dirt cheap. A friend of mine does concrete for a living. He said his ultimate driveway would be 4" of concrete topped by 2" of black top. Concrete for a solid base and black top to avoid salt "popping".

Prevent grass sticking to Mower Deck?

I haven't used it on mower decks but it sounds good to me. I'm a generator tech and we use it all the time for everything. It works great on battery terminals. Big industrial units that are exposed to all kinds of weather, just spray a little on and come back in a year and it looks as good as new.

    Plumbing without permit

If it were me, 1) I wouldn't have asked 2) you live in the country 3) If it costs more than $50 to add a ******* then I would go to the house or take a leak beside the garage.
