The Myth of the Two Car Garage

Garages aren't for running vehicles! Only the non running ones! I do worry about parking a daily driver on concrete in the winter. The salt / brine stuff drips into the concrete, then throughout the year as humidity comes and goes, the salt / brine chemicals will make their way back to the...

The Myth of the Two Car Garage

There's a bunch of fire wood in the new garage. That's not helping. Been too busy since moving. As soon as we started getting settled in the new house and I was about to start working on the garage, the engine in my car decided it was time for replacement. So had to start working on that. Then...

The Myth of the Two Car Garage

We recently moved. Old house had 18x24. New house is 24x36. I was able to get a vehicle in the 18x24, but after moving everything from that garage to the new one ... I can't get anything in the 24x36! Bigger garage, nothing fits. I don't get it.

    Tight Attic Access Panel

I did some 1/2'' drywall sheets myself on a ceiling and messed up my neck for a few weeks. I'm using a lift next time I'm hanging stuff

Safest Way to Lift/Jack up the entire Wall of Garage

Bumping this topic in case anyone was wondering what happened to the guy in the swamp with the saggy garage and house ... I did attempt to lift part of the garage wall this way and it did work. Enough that I would have felt confident doing all of the work on the garage! Unfortunately before I...

Safest Way to Lift/Jack up the entire Wall of Garage

Thanks for the responses! I have 8 20-ton jacks, 5 12-ton jacks and a few 2 ton jacks. I spent 3 years doing a significant amount of jacking on the house. I didn't sell them on CL or anything figuring I'd need them again eventually! I should have more than enough jacking capacity. I have...

    Can of Rustpaint Rusted out!

I had a gallon jug of PB Blaster rust out. That made a huge mess on the workbench.

Safest Way to Lift/Jack up the entire Wall of Garage

The garage itself isn't racked. Every stud is still perfectly vertical. Somehow. The wall sags a lot in the center. There's about a 5 inch delta between the front/back of the wall and the middle section. I was figuring by screwing / bolting the 2x8x to the existing studs and the top plate, and...

Safest Way to Lift/Jack up the entire Wall of Garage

I have one major house project that's going to be done soon. I need to get to work saving the garage, otherwise I won't have a garage this time next year. While knocking down and rebuilding would probably be ideal, this property isn't worth a $40K garage and it's too close to the property line...

    Portable Garage, Anyone Have One?Thoughts?

I have one of the HF ones going on 3 years now. I was hoping to be able to take it down this summer but looks like I won't be able to just yet. I have left it up this far mainly for privacy. It has had some pretty good snow loads on it, but I did tie ropes between each of the roof "trusses" to...

    Jolted :/

I knocked myself off a ladder a few months ago working on some bathroom wiring. I killed the breaker for the circuit I wanted to cut. Traced the wire from the breaker box to a junction box, then through the wall to another junction box, then to a gangbox and an outlet attached to the gangbox...

    Massive Harbor Freight Price Increases

I went to link someone to a small 12v compressor I use. Went from $65 to $99! No thanks!

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Built a drywall table. Had way too much drywall hanging around on plastic pallets taking up all of the floor space. Since lumber is now in second mortgage territory , ended up making it out of 2x3s and some scrap lumber I had laying around.

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Made a pin system for the car trailer ramps so I can carry them on the trailer itself. And made a set of spare tire mounts. One good thing about being a hoarder is I have 3 spare tires and 2 spare hubs for my trailer! Then broke up and repoured some concrete in the worst parts of the garage...

Installing Garage Door before cutting wall? Yes/No?

This will probably be a spring project. It's spider season now and I'm not brave enough to pull siding off. Heck, I'm afraid to go in that corner of the garage right now! If I could get the tracks set up and test to make sure I have the door set right, then I could cut the hole open again and...
