    Home automation today?

I have had 30-50 insteon devices in between this house and the last one, and am pretty happy with them. They have definitely gotten more reliable over the years, I think it is worth it to replace the dead switches with the newer generations. Z-wave has some interesting devices, and...

Where top find individual chrome sockets?

I've lasted many years without those socket sizes, but the OCD in me wants to have those spots filled, since I apparently have the same set of trays. I'm thinking that I need to trim the ends of the trays to remove the troublesome spots, that would be a cheaper way to solve my problem. T

    small bridge

I built a bridge over a 14 foot wide almost 15 foot deep ditch that crosses my back yard. My father was a civil engineer who specialized in bridges, so I sought his expert help on this task. I have a small tractor, so it was sized for a 1000lb load in the center of the bridge. What he...

    overstockblackfriday . com

It is a scam, their prices are way too good to be true, and their only payment option is Greendot Moneypak so that you have no recourse if it goes wrong. T

Rubber stoppers, anyone have a good source?

Widget Co, which has the weirdest product mix around. I've purchased shelf pins and bar stoppers from them. http://www.widgetco.com/

Need a Remote Garage Door Lock

I ran across this the other day, it replaces your existing remote with its own remote, that unlocks the deadbolt then triggers the garage door. https://securitysnobs.com/ELocksys-Garage-Door-Deadbolt.html Other than reading the webpage, I have no experience with it, it would be interesting...

    DeWalt Track saw?

I started with a PSI saw guide system which was basically a beefy aluminum L extrusions and a steel plate that you clamped onto your existing circular saw, and it did work nicely once you got it all set up and aligned with the saw, the dedicated track saw works so much easier and faster it isn't...

    DeWalt Track saw?

I bought one to build a 10' high wall full of bookshelves, it did a great job ripping plywood, way easier to move the saw than to move the sheet over a tablesaw. Since then I seem to use it anytime I am concerned about getting a really straight cut. You can find endless debates on the web on...

    Best place for lighting purchases

I've had good luck at Best Pro Lighting, their selection isn't the widest but they have the basics and it seems slightly better that the big box stores. I order the regular path lights and replace the bulbs with LEDs that I source elsewhere, but I use their LED bullet lights...

Epoxy Flooring Installers in San Diego

I'm really happy with http://www.perkinscustomcoatings.com/ , they did my 3 car garage in El Cajon in 2 days. But it was brand new concrete, so I can't vouch for their prep work otherwise. Tad

    Are you smarter than Elroy?

A gunpowder grain, probably for a naval cannon. I recall reading somewhere that you used to be able to get long extrusions of this, then bend them into a cane, but the internet is failing me now. Tad

Need some help from the resident mechanical geniuses

I've been toying with swapping casters for skids on all my large tools and buying a used pallet jack to move stuff around when needed. That would give me portability and stability at the same time without buying nicer casters. Anybody see issues with this approach? Tad
