My First Shop Build (40x50x14) - feedback appreciated

Good idea! Just got quote for scissor trusses vs. going up to 16' from 14' and it's actually cheaper to increase wall height given the snow load requirements here and scissor truss design. I'll have extra insulation costs but I think I'm going to opt for the 16' walls giving a minimum of 7'...

Thanks! That's what I am initially thinking. It gives 5' height on the wall end and then about 8'6" in the center under truss so seems workable. Also worth noting there is only one scissor truss over top the 40'x16' mezzanine. If I spray foam I get the additional height between truss up to...

Copy that. Fortunately I'm not dealing with heavy inspection in my location and this is common here for a non-permited solution given my limits on septic. Thanks!

My house septic is probably 200' away and would have to dig up driveway. Additionally my septic size is maxed out for house but I do agree with your idea of getting "rough plumbing" in for possible future. I really like the 2nd floor bath idea, in which case the 16' ceilings would be ideal...

I had a friend recommend this as well. Good idea, probably need to do this. I really want to ensure I've got everything in the concrete for potential future use.

Really good point, from past experience, you have to keep an eye on all these contractors so I'll make sure I watch this closely. Thanks

Man, I'd really like to. I'm trying to cut some costs out and in order to get the larger 40'x50' footprint I was thinking I could save some costs in the 14' ceilings but I may have to see what the final costs come in and try and get this included. Thanks for input. Can you clarify what you...

Great point! Yes the plan would be to keep everything on casters for flexibility. I tried to maximize infeed and outfeed of table saw, jand planer but it’s definitely a little tight for jointer. I usually don’t plane really long boards. Will be interesting to see how it feels when everything...

My First Shop Build (40x50x14) - feedback appreciated

Hey All, I've been working out of a 2 car garage for awhile now and finally have the space and budget to build a larger shop. I'm planning the build this spring and been spending a lot of time planning out a dual use wood/auto shop but this is my first shop build and while I've gotten a lot of...
