    Race car dash fabrication

Umm, I think not. 3003-H0 would be dead soft and 1100-H0 is dead soft "pure" aluminum. You'll pay out the nose for 6061-H0 (again, dead soft). The H numbers denote the heat treat condition of the aluminum. 0 is basically the same as annealed aluminum, and it goes up from there. The "norm" for...

How do you keep your wrenches?

That's why I use the foam "racks". No fields but 170,000+ sq ft of production floor to cover. I got tired of spending part of every day putting wrenches back in the open holders and the locking type wouldn't fit in the drawers with 1/4-1 /14" and whatever my metric set is (6-22mm, plus a couple...

How do you keep your wrenches?

Like this: Sorry for the crappy cell phone pic. Since I never want to take the whole set out of the drawer, I use the foam "universal tool" set from Sears. It's the best way I've found to fit 2 sets of wrenches in the drawers on my box(Kobalt-branded Waterloo Traxx P.O.S.). Oh, and, yes, the...

    digital multimeter...........

Since I do industrial stuff for a living, Fluke 111 and T5-1000 for me. The 111 isn't Cat4 600V or Cat3 1000V rated, so it's my home shop meter now - replacing the $10 HF multimeter previously used for auto electrical testing and checking to see if an outlet is live :shocking: Tim D.

    Don't do this!

Didn't knock me out, but 18 years later there is still some hair behind the chuck of that drill! I'm also glad I'm not the only one who has set himself on fire with a 4 1/2" grinder! This stuff can really hurt ya! Tim D.

Anyone use Ikea cabinets for the shop?

They have some screaming deals on white countertop and a really good price on a beechwood "butcher block" counter top too. I'm thinking about it! Tim D.

My take on the H-F beadroller

John, is that you? You should show off that e-wheel too! Still one of my favorites. My beadroller was reinforced with some 1 1/2" square tube and powered by a 90vDC Dayton motor with a Leeson controller. Tim D.

    Where to get 7/16" O.D. x 8mm I.D. metal spacer?

Ya know, 5/16" is functionally the same as 8mm - depending on your tolerances. Brass or bronze bushings would be good - try Mcmaster-Carr, as mentioned, or MSC Industrial Supply. I've done plenty of drilled bolts too, works really well most of the time.....when it doesn't work out, it's...

    Air compressor question

Those Eaton pumps are darn good units! A couple of friends have them, and have nothing but good things to say about the performance. Tim D.

    Compressor not restarting :(

Sounds like a pressure switch. If IR isn't much help, you should be able to get a Square D replacement switch for around $20. Not using the compressor enough may actually be part of the problem. CarGuy, sounds like the pressure switch on yours too. If the motor wouldn't run (and had voltage to...

Metabo 6" grinder Fresh rebuild with tags

2 weeks ago I would have been all over that! Spent too much money and my tool budget is blown now! I spent more than that on my 4 1/2" Metabo! Tim D.

16” Floor Model Drill Press for sale

There's a neat little program out there called boltcirc that will allow you to do that on any mill, nearly any bolt circle if you can center it up and read the dials. DRO makes it too easy, but I'm old school and still end up reading the dials. I'll second the Nice Work comment! I probably...

FS: Vintage electrical automotive testers...Peerless, Airtex, Stewart-Warner

Got the SW and the Peerless at the end of last week, nice stuff! Guess I'll have to take the Penske timing light too! Tim D.

What can I use as the shaft for my buffer?

Why not just buy a piece of 1" TGP shaft? Shouldn't cost too much.
