    Radon mitigation stack

Once you preform the test, you're legally obligated to reveal the results on the sale disclosure form... so whether you install or not, you're paying the cost of the system in the negotiation process of a sale. I would never agree to the test, and I don't live in an area of high radon. I don't...

    Radon mitigation stack

Not addressing the question but... on the radon subject, here in PA you are not required to conduct a radon sample test when selling a home. However, if a buyer requests it, and you agree, beware! If the results come back positive for radon, regardless if the buyer follows thru with the...

    Sticker Shock 30x40 New Build

I believe modern roof designs, with lots of steep pitches and dormers and valleys has been a big factor in the price of roof work. Higher sq. ft. for those jobs has raised the bar and carried over to all roof work.

    Asphalt millings for fill

I realize the benefits of insulation and I despise a cold garage floor as much as the next guy. However I have a underlying fear of the life of that material down the road. I guess it has something to do with the fact that you spend time making sure there are no organic material in your base...

    Straightening-Out A Poorly-Constructed Garage?

We separated this hip from its ceiling joist and raised it 9 ft. and then set it on prefabricated walls which were lifted up in place over a weekend. Your roof will go back to where it once was, no worries. (Having trouble posting the pic) [ The rafters that you referred to as "corner rafters"...

    Straightening-Out A Poorly-Constructed Garage?

Since this is half a hip roof you need to counteract the downward force by running a 3/8 or 7/16 wire rope cable from the bottom of the two hip rafters across the hypotenuse to the wall connected to the house. They should be installed permanently with a turnbuckle and wrap around the hip rafter...

    (Another) Compressor Piping Thread

You're right it would be rare... it would occur if the valve was closed and plugged and someone opened the valve monumentally and allowed a leg of condensate to fill the valve, then closed it again. Maybe a kid playing around, probably unlikely, but it has happened.

    (Another) Compressor Piping Thread

Here's a little info about ball valves to be aware of. In certain situations and applications, they may not be the best valve to use. It is more an issue when the medium is water instead of air, but it could apply to air systems because some garages in northern climates may see the...

    (Another) Compressor Piping Thread

When it comes to piping systems the fittings are what cost the most so if you can stay away from specialty fittings you're much better off price-wise. I'm installing my air system inside my 2X6 framing so I plan on using pex with clamped brass fittings. Just keep in mind, since you're surface...

Beam and stick vs pole help!?

I'm glad to see that, my only experience with pole barns was when they'd throw a bag of sakrete in a hole and drop the PT in. Back then the posts were a lot better preserved. So are these standard practice with all pole barn construction today?

Beam and stick vs pole help!?

I'm not a big fan of pole barns today because of one reason... the quality of PT lumber has become **** due to the epa's restrictions on what preservatives can be used. I recently saw a deck that was built in 2010 that had to be completely ripped out because it was 90% decayed. deckboards...

One Man Budget Build... 23x40x14 Framed Garage/Shop

I get a good, consistent wifi signal from the house being about 100' away, my internet is fast for my laptop and my smart tv experiences no drop in video signal and my cell reception is fine, so I don't want any issues with metal, inside or out. I read a lot about the condensate issues...
