Switch on one leg of 250V circuit

Yep, that's what it says. I hear it's a way for the manufacturer to get around listing the "real" HP rating. Good to know! I think I am going to skip running a second wire to avoid running into any sort of second feeder issue. If I decide a shutoff in the shop is necessary I will look into...

Switch on one leg of 250V circuit

Thanks for all the input everyone, it's looking like a small panel in the shed is the only way to go for what I want. Interesting, my motor plate doesn't have a hp rating on it, so I was working backwards from the NEC table and the amperage. They sure don't make these things obvious, do they?

Switch on one leg of 250V circuit

Switch on one leg of 250V circuit

Thanks for all the input! :D It never hurts to know why you shouldn't do something! I was hoping someone would have a NEC reference, because I haven't been able to find anything. A relay is a pretty good idea, I can think of a number of 120v controllers that could run a relay, like the x10...

Switch on one leg of 250V circuit

I have an idea for an issue i have that probably isn't code but I couldn't find anything specifically forbidding it. I am running 10/3 UF to a detached shed where I would like to run my 250v compressor and install a light and 125V outlet. I would like to remotely disconnect my compressor from...
