    why industrial(black oxide)

Chrysler Assembly Plants actually have a policy that states all tools much be black oxide. It was explained to me that this was to prevent FOD, and also for employee safety (prevent cuts from flaking chrome) Fortunately the TMS guys that ordered tools knew this was a bogus policy. Many of...

    Bandsaw blade rec's

Here are some tips. I have a pretty serious bias toward Bahco Band Saw Blades, but there are other good ones out there too. 1) Make sure the blade is Bi Metal. It cuts faster, stays sharper, and will stand up to more abuse. 2) Use a variable pitch blade. They cut faster, smoother and will...

Who is the oldest main line tool maker?

Actually they sell mostly Made in the USA stuff. They offer a lot of Imported tools now, but they don;t sell as much of it as you'd think. Up until Aug 09 I worked for Snap-on as the Area Sales Manager for JHWTG in Ontario, Canada. I have a pretty decent idea what they've been up to for the...

My box is locked unless I'm standing in front of it. That way if something goes missing I only have myself as a suspect.

What makes a bandsaw exclusive to wood or steel use?

The tooth geometry is pretty different as well. Wood blades have a hooked tooth shape, metal blades are a little more raked. Also mettal cutting blades tend to be BiMetal these days. You can cut metal with a carbon steel blade, but not nearly as effectively as you can using BiMetal.

What to put on the liftgate of my new Snap-on Truck.

Take a pic of the truck with the tail gate down showing the guts of the truck and all the tools. Put the image on your tailgate.

can air tools be used under water?

You can use them under water, no problem. We covered this subject when I attended training at the Sioux Tools plant in Murphy NC. If you're going to do this for any extended period of time you'd want to make want to make an exhaust extension to get the bubble out of the way. The water won't...

    Wilton Bandsaw

The blades it came with a carbon steel. Don't be too upset if they last very long. Grab a couple of Bi-Metal blades in 10-14 TPI and you should be able to get through that rebar no problem. Go 6-10 TPI for larger stuff, but take it easy on the feed rate to get a nice finish.

    Out of the Tool Business

For General Purpose cutting any of the big brands are good. Amada, Starratt, Lenox, DoAll, Wikus. Blade TPI selection and saw set-up is what can make/break a GP band saw blade. For production cutting (Alloy, Super Alloy, Bundle Cutting etc) Bahco or Lenox are the way to go. It gets very...

The real reason, it is made in China!/India

I can tell you that's exactly why Snap-on is there. As much as people want to believe it's so they can bait/switch their "Made in the USA" customer base but it has more to do with following the money. The plants were put there to serve those markets, and fill some gaps over here.

    Out of the Tool Business

There are other brands coming out of that plant but I signed a confidentiality agreement before they let me through the door. I'm quite sure it's still binding so I'll have to respectfully decline to provide any specifics. I wish I took some pics of the training center in that facility. You...
