There is a formula -I'm at my desk right now so don't have access to my notes. I want to say that the axel is mounted 2/3's (of the trailer length) from the tongue - but don't quote me on that.
Whatever it was I must have been lucky because it pulls really well at all speeds. I've pulled it...
Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter I could spend hours in here. Looks like a very peaceful place to get work done. I hope you realize how fortunate you are Kris... ...some of us have cubicles... :)
Yeah - these were a challenge... I tried to make some out of aluminum and match the rest of the trailer. I didn't have the tools to make it work - I probably could now. Anyways, I ended up making a mold and then making a fiberglass section from that. The fiberglass corners were riveted on to...
Now that is one of the best looking (and designed) fab tables I've seen. Very well thought out - esp the holes in the top plate and the placement of the vice. Good job.
Loving it.
I've seen too many of these sanitized show case garages when you wonder if anything gets done in there.
I like a 'worked-in' shop with character. Yours has it in spades.
Yeah - I've slept in this one quite a few times. Works great if you have an air mattress and it also stays remarkably cool in the summer time. I've thought about the awning idea too - I just didn't have time to pull it all together. Maybe I'll add it on next year.
I've left it bare aluminum...
Good question. I think one of these would sell (new) for between $1900 and $2300 - depending on the brand and quality.
I have about $500 for materials and parts into this one. And (as you mention) the pleasure and satisfaction of building it.
Thanks Tim.
Not mentioned in this write up is the insulation and sheeting of the interior. I used 1" foam - this actually worked out great for these 'Z' sections: the lip of the 'Z' captured the foam on one side and the sheet metal screws (poking through from the outside) held the opposing...

With the floor installed I now moved on to the sides of the trailer. Before we get to the sides, here are a few pics of the underside (you can see how the aluminum angle is supporting the floor).
Now the sides...
I made a series of angle brackets and clips to secure my...
Sure. The frame member tubes were welded together at a 45 degree joint (i.e. a mitre joint - see first image of the build) and then I made a radius template to make the round - I went with a 6" radius corner.
I then cut the outside portion of the mitre off - shaping it to the round radius made...
So after several years of getting my race bike down to the track like this:
Clearly I needed something a little more substantial - at a minimum somewhere to store my leathers and helmet etc.. and maybe even sleep in...
So I started building my own enclosed trailer. Here you go - take...
