Excellent! It looks like I wasn't too far off. I figured I would error on the side of a little too much material rather than not enough. Worse case I could add some heat to help it peen easier, and always able to grind excess away. Appreciate you sharing the information. Now I just need...

Any advice or drawings for making a Wilton replacement handle? I'm planning on peening to fasten the handle ends, but I'm just making it up as I go. .75" 1144 stressproof for the handle. .100" extra on the .400 diamter to peen into the counterbore recess on the donut ends. Will it be too...

Ready to paint a 1978 Wilton model 9-600. I can't make up my mind on what color to paint it (rattlecan). Should I go for original or something unique? Anyone have examples, suggestions or strong opinions? What was the original color green or blue?

Hello, I'm in need of some ideas for how to remove a stuck Wilton pin. I have 9-600 with frozen jaws that I'm beginning to disassemble for an electrolysis bath. I was able to remove one of the 1/4" pins without issue. However the other pin has only been driven approximately 3/16". Now it is...

Super compact screw type air compressor

Not the same. Came here to recommend the Eastwood scroll compressor, if you're main requirement is sound. Screw compressors are really designed for continuous high-volume operations. The published db for the eastwood is also less than the screw model you posted.

    Metals reference

There's a whole number of considerations that go into answering your question of what metal to use and why. The more you can narrow down your requirements the better. Material properties only make sense in the context of application. Imagine being asked "What is the best tool to use?" If...

    L.S. Starrett Athol Vise

Weird revival of a dead thread. In any case you are wrong, they did use a speckled paint. It was a two-part process first the blue base, followed by the white/black speckle. It's been a couple years but I believe it was Yost who manufactured these for Starrett and I spoke with them directly...

I've always been curious to know who copied who. It appears Wilton ripped-off York. https://www.datamp.org//patents/displayPatent.php?number=685,893&country=DE This is the patent for the York vise that was widely imported into the US after World War II. Meanwhile, York salesman Hugh W. Vogl...

Thanks, the date is stamped 1/71. I think I'm going to leave it as is. I'm just curious to know how rare a 2.5" is and get an estimate what this model and condition is worth?

Hi Guys, I can't find much information on the Wilton model 250 2.5" jaws. Is there any wilton collectors that can give me more information seems like 2" and 3" were the most popular. Nothing to reference price wise on eBay either.
