    Yet another mini split thread

With that much insulation, I was going to suggest 12k, especially if your garage door is either insulated or facing north.

help needed with covered walkway design

Well, that was unanimous. Freestanding it is. Thanks everyone. When I pour the walkway between buildings, I'll include supports for some posts. The structure will be about 4' x 11', so not big enough to worry about permits. Aluminum would be easiest for initial construction and maintenance...

help needed with covered walkway design

I want to build a covered walkway between my house and my detached shop. The distance is only 10 feet. I'll also install a cement path which I know how to do, but I'm completely lost on how to build the cover. When I try Google and YouTube, I can only find long walkways with support posts...

    Florida garage workspace cooling experiments...

I'm not sure where the confusion is. With the installation method I designed, you don't need windows or exterior walls.

    Florida garage workspace cooling experiments...

Another option is to add a window unit. I did this is a previous house of mine where the garage had no windows and there were HOA restrictions. Sounds just like what you're dealing with. I came up with an installation that didn't cut any holes in the wall and resulted in the system being...

I wouldn't either. Buy one for much cheaper.

Denali Aire 18,000 Btu Mini Split?

I installed my Pioneer unit myself. Only tool that might be considered special is a flaring tool, and those are only $20.

    Rebel Pioneer Mini Split Install

I also used this thread years ago to help with my decision. I'm about 3 years in on my install, and everything is working great. I had never done any a/c work before, yet the installation was fairly easy. The only additional cost beyond the units themselves was $100 for someone to pull a...

Redundancy of having 2 separate mini splits - paid off today

I traced it to a faulty exterior disconnect switch. Had nothing to do with the a/c system.

Redundancy of having 2 separate mini splits - paid off today

There's lots of threads about having two separate units vs a single unit with multiple heads. Well, my separate units just paid off. One of my splits quit this morning, and I'm still comfortably working in my shop today. It's a hot, humid day in Florida with a feels like of 99°, but it's...

How many foot candles would you want?

My shop is 120 lumens/sf. It was quite the shock when I turned them on the first time, but after a few years with it, I wouldn't do any less.

Sizing mini split for my new garage with cathedral ceiling

You're in the right range with the 18k and 24k units. For the small cost difference, I would definitely pick the 24k. That size will pay off when you pull in a hot car on a summer day.

    Cooling a 26x36 shop

The place I bought my pioneer units from sells 24k mini splits for $1k delivered. I did the installation myself. Even if you ignore the monthly cost savings, I'd still spend the extra just for the quiet operation.

    Cooling a 26x36 shop

The bottom of my units are 8'2" above the floor. Here is an old pic I took during the install. I highlighted your last point, because I've found that to be very true. After I bring a vehicle into the shop, it takes a surprisingly long time to cool everything down. With 36k, it takes 6-12...
