    parts cleaner evaporation/condensation

It's a big rectangular box, around 50" long x 18" wide & 18" deep. I don't use it as intended as that would be too much fluid. I have a plastic tub placed in the bottom of it that I have the pump in along with the fluid.

    parts cleaner evaporation/condensation

Hello all. I finally put my parts cleaner into service. I have about 7 gallons of a 10:1 water:Oil Eater mix in it. It's all metal with a lid and is located in my shop that is not climate controlled. These days the temperature goes between 80-90F and goes between 45-95% humidity day to...

Rusted stainless exhaust tubing - not used

I don't know where I checked it when I received it. I must have made a poor choice of magnet that time. It may be more resistant, but looking at it now, it doesn't matter. It's not just a bit of minor surface rust that you see if you look closely. It's solid at this point in most areas.

Rusted stainless exhaust tubing - not used

Magnet did not stick. Personal project. However, I just went and checked with a much stronger magnet, and it did attract strongly. So...I've been had. Too bad because I used this same tubing for a "stainless" exhaust on one of my cars. Penny wise, pound foolish.

Rusted stainless exhaust tubing - not used

Well, I did buy it to be shiny. I'm sure I'd have a hard time getting rid of it given that I keep so much that others would trash. If I did get rid of it, it'd just be for the shame of buying something that is counterfeit even though I should have known better. That being said, I was...

Rusted stainless exhaust tubing - not used

I used citric acid wit fumed selica for the passivation, not nitric acid. Well, it was from Amazon.... Looks like I may have been had.

Rusted stainless exhaust tubing - not used

I bought some 304 stainless exhaust tubing for a project that hasn't happened yet. It had an oil coating on it, but got wet in a flood and rust started showing in areas. Time passed and now the majority of the surfaces have rusted. I did repassivate a piece of it and it looked good for a...

What Tool Is The Bane of your existence? I'll go 1st

It's gone both ways before, no doubt. Call it general decline. I'd say engineering has been hollowed out. Around here, it's still not legal to even call yourself an Engineer without a PE license, although no one pays much mind to that. To get the license you had to have 4 years experience...

What Tool Is The Bane of your existence? I'll go 1st

But nobody thinks they know more than the typical engineer thinks they know.... Fresh from high school class, straight to college class and then they are "the Engineer". Diploma mill recipients the majority of them....

Quite a few Man-cards need to be handed over here ;) Robertson screws are very good unless cheaply made. Almost never have an issue with popout or stripping, unlike the much inferior Phillips, which as pointed out already, leads often to misery due to both poor screws & tools. IIRC, Phillips...

Trying to weld repair rusted out pellet grill. Material issue

Good idea, if the controls were... but it's a Cuisinart.... The control knob has to have constant slight pressure pushing into it to keep it on. Cuts out if I let go. Not high quality. I'm gonna take Bert's advice and be done with it. Easier than rivets even.

Trying to weld repair rusted out pellet grill. Material issue

It was coated; paint would have given up with the flapper. Ceramic would make sense since it was quite hard to grind through. And...maybe I'm not through it yet. Sure looked like it though. Yeah, I'm not expecting much from it. Wife called me yesterday about a pellet grill someone had set...
