    2 post lift I10 vs VLE10, I10 it is.

Is you can't come up with any technical reason to choose one over the other, that $700 savings would make up my mind

    2 post lift I10 vs VLE10, I10 it is.

I've had the Forward I10 for 5 years with no issues. Everything from my riding mower to my 3/4 diesel truck. I've never had a lowered car on it, but it has plenty of clearance for my stock height 2016 Mustang. Is there a company local to you that installs/services either of these lifts? If...

How do I do a DIY alignment with Toe Plates

Close enough. At some point, you're worrying about things that are beyond the precision of the strings and a metal ruler. What is the runout on the wheel surface you are measuring from? Are you looking at the ruler/string from exactly the same angle every time? Do the fronts and rears each have...

How do I do a DIY alignment with Toe Plates

    1. The strings must be the same distance apart in front of and behind the car. 2. The distance from the rear hub in the center of the wheel must be the same on each side. 3. The distance from the front hub in the center of the wheel must be the same on each side. Get all that lined up right...

How do I do a DIY alignment with Toe Plates

The easiest way to do what you are describing is to use strings. Here's a description: http://speed.academy/diy-wheel-alignment-how-to-guide-explained/2/ I do this on my race cars. It's a bit fiddly to get set up. But gets quicker each time you do it.

Can we completely replace our combo wrenches with ratcheting ones yet?

I use ratcheting wrenches 99% of the time working on cars. Clearance is the main reason I dig out the traditional wrenches. And every so often, when I need to link 2 wrenches together to loosen a tight nut, I go to the traditional wrench.

Do those of you who have roll-up doors on your garage or shed get a lot of mice or bugs inside?

I have the brush seals, and don't have much of a problem with mice and bugs. I actually haven't seen evidence of mice in the 5 years since it was built. But I can't offer a comparison as I installed the seals shortly after it was built.

Thoughts on the various lift manufacturers ... specifically 2 post

You're on the right track by looking for an installer. Hopefully you can find one in your area. 4 years ago, I went with a Forward brand lift. They were mid-priced; more than the Tuxedo brand and the various copies, but less than a Rotary. And more importantly, a local installer stocked and...

Mini-Split in Insulated Metal Building - Single or Dual Fan Unit?

I'm in Houston. I have a 30x50x14. Spray foam insulation on the walls (average is about 3" thick) and batt-type insulation on the underside of the roof (open rafters; unknown R value). I have a 36k Btu Mr. Cool. One air handler more or less centered on the long wall near my lift with 2...

    Rolling Mechanic/Garage Chair?

It's a stool, not a chair, but I use this one from Harbor Freight and really like it. The casters are large enough to roll smoothly. I also have a similar Caterpillar brand that is a little nicer, but it wasn't $180 when I got that one several years ago. The HF version is nice enough. Just...

    Corded lights....obsolete these days?

Yes. It's a simple screen door screen from Lowes.

    Corded lights....obsolete these days?

It's a screen door spring from Lowes. I used 1/2" and 1" PVC. The spring is held by two little bolts, one in the 1/2" side and one on the 1" side. At rest, there is only a tiny bit of tension on it. I should have taken a picture or two when assembling it, but I didn't think about it. The shop...

    Corded lights....obsolete these days?

I use both in my shop. I have a homemade underhood light that is spring loaded and clamps to the sides of the hood (cost me $40 to make). It uses a corded LED shop light. And I made a light to use under the lift by mounting a corded LED light array to an old shop stool I don't use anymore...

    Plasma cutter on Amazon

Same here. I use it 4-5 times a year. Works great for my home shop needs. Used it the other day to cut the bracing off the trunk lid from the new race car. Much easier than a grinder or saw.
