    The VISES of Garage Journal

Sourcing a No.1 wrench for a small Charles Parker vise (9/16” or 19/32”)? Was the original No.1 wrench for a small Charles Parker vise (e.g., 973) a 9/16” (as I thought) or 19/32” (or 5/8”)? And if it was originally soft cast, how can we know? If you need but are unable to source an original...

Kennedy Kits Tool Or Tackle Box Age

@TimmoTool*, “Anyone know when the Model 621 went out of production?” One of your very best sources to narrow down the date range for your tackle box is to search the Fishing/tackle and sporting goods magazines. Since you have at least one ad for the Kennedy tackle boxes, search successive...

@four.cycle, Thank you for letting us know. There have been at least 11 added just this month! Can you (or @Mark Stansbury ) share a resource on how we can submit additional PDF’s for consideration to be added into the ITCL?

Kennedy Kits Tool Or Tackle Box Age

Stamped patent references can be helpful in approximating age, but only when the referenced patent and date are verified. Even when a patent can be confidently identified, the patent date typically establishes an earliest possible manufacture date, not an exact one. In this era, U.S. utility...

Kennedy Kits Tool Or Tackle Box Age

Congratulations. You have already determined a much closer date range for your Kennedy Manufacturing Co. box (tool or tackle) than most. What you can personally continue to contribute further here on GJ will likely add to the overall body of knowledge. In the absence of an original sales...

@TimmoTool You’ve likely already seen this ITCL ad from July 1923 in Good Hardware for the 612 and 616 tackle boxes, right?

Indeed. The clockwise rotation of the 45 degree flat head trims out beautifully avoiding any obstruction.

AFTER: And now here are a few “after“ photos of this vintage 7-drawer 520 Kennedy. Other than cleaning, the only thing that is not original are the new brown felt drawer liners from Kennedy (and an extra key). Even though I was about to cover the drawer interiors with new felt, I did prep all...

For those of you collecting or restoring Kennedy 520 7-drawer machinist top boxes far longer, can you confirm whether this decal (green and gold Kennedy Kits) would be the correct era decal for this vintage 520 sample (shown in the images later below)? And wasn’t this decal affixed on the...

GJ user @mattblast has recreated these (out of production) Kennedy decals for me. As usual, they’ve turned out perfect. IF anyone confirms that the style no. sticker on the 297XB (29″ 7-Drawer Roller Cabinet) should have been issued with a serial number (rather than a date), please do update me...

Can the serial number on a Kennedy directly (or indirectly) help to determine the year of manufacture? As examples, I’ve seen some (520 or 526’s) with a 3, 4, 5 and 6 digit serial number. At least in some cases, do the first two digits depict the 2 digit year within the 21st century?
