So does the 145 designate that it's a 4.5" Jaw? Seemed to measure about 4 3/8" and the seller referred to it as a 4" when he listed it on CL and talked about it on the phone. It was much beefier than the Simplex which was 5". Does anyone have any literature or info on the Morgan 145?
I mentioned a few days ago that my Kobalt 4" vise broke and I found and purchased a Morgan 145 Wednesday. I mounted up the Morgan last night and it's just fantastic!
This morning I took the Kobalt back to Lowes thinking I was wasting my time as it's not even listed on their website anymore. I...
Well, I met up with the guy that had the Morgan and the Simplex. The Morgan's jaws measured 4 3/8" and was beefier and in better shape. So I bought it. Thanks for the advice. I'll keep you up to date on the Columbian and the C Parker I'm supposed to get pics of today.
I finally heard back from the guy with the Colmbian and the C Parker above. I think I'll buy both and keep the Columbian. I'm leaning toward the Simplex too as it's bigger and then I'll have one for the garage and on for the basement shop.

Both of these look like nice pieces and while they are not bargains, I don't have to restore them. I've got plenty to do restoring my vintage car. This is a tool to me and I'd like a nice one, but don't want to put a lot of time into...
Maybe, I think what happened is I had the vise extended open all the way and it slumped and without my realizing it and it put it at an awkward angle and with a lot of leverage. It was a cheap Kobalt. The piece that broke (that the spindle threads through) looked like pot metal, almost.
I broke my 4" Kobalt vise. The piece that the spindle threads through broke. I've googled for parts, but can't find anything so I'm thinking about a replacement. I would like something bigger than 4". I work on vintage cars and it seems like I was constantly at the limit of the 4" opening...
