What kind of tools have you found in the road??

I've found a few things over the years, so I always keep my eyes peeled when driving, walking or cycling. Best thing I found was a large ball peen hammer (hopped out of my car while stopped at a busy roundabout, to retrieve it!). I've found plenty of sockets, ratchet straps, chain shackles...

Plastic Jawed Pliers for -finished fitings-

I never throw out old leather, whether it's an old belt or pair of shoes I'll always salvage the leather for reuse. The leather tongue from an old pair of shoes is my go to when I need to prevent marking something when using pliers, water pump pliers etc.

    Hollow Punch Set

I've owned this Boehm set for many years now and used in conjunction with my trusty "Thor" mallet it has proven its worth, time and time again. From making washers to working with leather, plastics, canvas etc it never fails to please. I remember it being expensive to purchase at the time...

Below 265 SQ/FT Very small garage in Russia

Hi Vladimir, greetings from Ireland. I was on holidays recently with my family and managed to find some time to catch up on Garage Journal and stumbled upon your thread. What a great read, it's fascinating to see a more modest workshop, in a country I know so little about and great to see how...

Making a door stopper for my workshop

Here's a simple little project that was inspired by some "beach combing" I did with my kids on a recent holiday. We found an old fishing float on the beach, and being a fan of all things nautical (we do live more than 70 miles from the sea!) I thought it would make a nice door stopper for one...

    The VISES of Garage Journal

This is my most recent vise purchase- a Record No. 1, with 3" jaws, opens up to 3 1/4". Was in decent condition when I bought it, just cleaned off the usual old paint, crud, old grease and light rust. The tommy bar had a grind cut, almost half way through which I welded up and ground/ filed...

    Lean-to Shed Construction Progress

Good luck with whatever solution you go with, I love these build threads! I finished my own small woodwork shop build two years ago and like you I had many doubts about construction methods etc. I'm fairly particular myself and I never regretted any additional work or spend afterwards, go with...

    Lean-to Shed Construction Progress

I'dlike to chime in here, I don't know what your ground conditions or ventilation are like but it seems to me that ripping up that OSB would be a nightmare. You'll have chips of OSB and adhesive residue sticking to the treated joists which will need to be scraped off- there's a few hours work...

New Garage Build 32x24 Wicklow, Ireland

Lovely job so far, great to see another Irish project on this site, nearing the end of my own small workshop build now. Please keep the photos coming....

    Tools from the old world

This is a NOS 8" combination pliers from Record, Sheffield, England. I didn't really need another pliers but I'd never seen a Record marked pliers before and it was keenly priced at €12.95 so i couldn't pass it by. As far as I know Record stopped most manufacturing at their Parkway Works in or...

    toolbox security

If the tool boxes and cabinets are lined up against a wall you could fit a roller shutter over head (similar idea to the cage) to create a tool room, keeps the stuff out of sight and no one knows what's behind it. Any of the other good ideas on this thread should help to keep the tools in your...

    How about a bicycle trailer?

Nice work! I think a previous posters suggestion about a drain hole would be a great idea, makes it easy to wash the inside and pull the plug when your done.

Whats the Best method for replacing a hammer handle?

Lots of good advise in this thread. I've fitted plenty of hammer and axe handles and only recently stumbled upon a better method for fitting heads on handles rather than hammering on. Most manufacturers use a hydraulic ram or press arrangement to press heads onto handles- it's accurate and...

Help me identify this adjustable wrench?

Do you think? Any of the Chinese ones I've ever seen for sale have been stamped "China" and I've never seen a Chinese one with a DIN or EN standard stamped on them. Only cost me €1 anyway, so no big disappointment.
